June 6, 2024Job Title: Sorting Room Worker and Relief Store ClerkLocation: Hagerstown Thrift Store Position Type: part-time, non-exemptPay Rate: $15.00/hour About this opportunity:The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Sorting Room Worker/Relief Store Clerk at Thrift Store in Hagerstown, Maryland. Qualified candidates will:Receive, inspect, and sort donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition.Hang clothes on hangers and place same on clothes racks.Select items suitable for store display and distribute same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing, discard items in accordance with established procedures.Tag items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables, and work areas.Assist customers by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collect monies, count change, and prepare receipts; prepare and package purchased items;Assist customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensure that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience. What we are looking for in you:EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High School diploma or G.E.D., and experience working in a retail store preferred; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:Noneknowledge of CPR or CPR Certification preferred Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsAbility to meet attendance requirements.Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.Ability to learn and concentrate.Duties are performed seated or intermittently sitting, standing or stoopingOccasional lifting of light objects (less than 25 lbs) and occasional lifting of objects 25 to 50 pounds may be necessary. Why work for us?The Salvation Army offers a broad range of career opportunities, particularly targeted toward those motivated by our mission, to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.The Salvation Army strives to do the “Most Good” for its employees by offering a greater sense of purpose in the work performed, by training and mentoring employees and by offering competitive compensation and benefit plans.
