EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

• Must be willing to work in a Christian environment and assist with Bible related activities
• High School Diploma or higher (unless under age 18)
• Work permit may be required for those under age 18, per local guidelines

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

General: Effective verbal and written communications, ability to multitask. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Must have ability to work and relate well with people. Must have a positive attitude toward helping and fostering children in their development.

Organization: The ability to maintain a directed schedule along with the ability to lead a large group through multiple projects in a timely manner. Must be responsible, detail oriented, and can take projects from beginning through completion.

Professional: The ability to work in a distinctively Christian environment. The ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Able to work in a team setting with other professionals. EQUIPMENT:

• Proficiency required in Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher. Proficiency a plus in Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Media Player, and Media Shout (or similar program).

SCOPE OF POSITION

This is a training program to get work experience while helping to support all of the activities of the Summer Day Camp Program. This is done by rotating through three areas: Food Service (Dining Room and Kitchen, Building Maintenance and Camp Programs).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Support and Training

1. Assist, with direction from assigned counselor or Program Staff, in supervising, actively engaging, and leading campers during assigned program time.
2. Assist, with direction from assigned counselor or Program Staff, in responding to, and providing opportunities for discussion of, individual or group problems or concerns among campers.
3. Under the guidance of counselors and Program Staff, handle common behavioral and/or emotional issues with campers.
4. Communicate regularly with assigned counselor or Program Staff, conveying needs and concerns regarding campers.
5. Assist in the implementation of camp rules, report immediately any camper misconduct.
6. At least once: lead a camper devotion for your campers, participate in any element of a chapel service.
7. Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sportsmanship, and table manners.
8. Adhere to camp health codes and safety guidelines for all campers.

Food Service Support and Training

1. Set and clear tables for meals and snacks.
2. Assist with serving food during meals as requested.
3. Maintain cleanliness of dining room area including tables, floors, serving lines and bathrooms.
4. Help unload, move, and store supplies.
5. Adhere to work schedule set by Dining Room Coordinator or SIT & Facility Lead.

Service Crew Support and Training

1. Clean all common facilities, bathrooms, and meeting areas as scheduled.
2. Restock common bathrooms.
3. Assist with the set-up and takedown of program areas and meeting spaces.
4. Set up of organized activities as requested.
5. Help unload, move, and store supplies.
6. Remove trash throughout entire grounds once daily.
7. Ensure proper PTM policies are being followed in all aspects of programming.
8. Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
9. Regular and punctual attendance is an essential job requirement.
10. Flexibility and a cooperative spirit are crucial characteristics of the individuals who hold this important position.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminished performance.
• Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs. for short distances.
• Must be in excellent physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the gymnasium and athletic field programs.
• Must be physically able to give emergency care if a situation arises.
• Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist body, stand for short/long periods of time, kneel push, pull, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, climb stairs, close vision, distance vision, smell, talk, hear, have eye-hand coordination, have manual dexterity, speak and read English and work in noisy areas
• May walk or stand on varied surfaces. Will require work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
• The following equipment may be used: telephone, computer equipment, electronic recorder, fax/copy machine, microphones, audio-visual equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills-CPR/AED

Education High School Diploma or better

Experience-Previous work or volunteer experience preferred, but not required for a training program.

Licenses & Certifications- Food Handlers Card; CPR/First Aid Certificate
