The Salvation Army is Hiring a People Manager Near Camden, NJ

Essential Function

The People Manager will provide direct HR support to the Camden Kroc Center in recruitment, HR systems, performance management, development, employee relations, compliance, engagement, and training.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed below are the primary duties of this position but are not all the duties that may be required. The Salvation Army reserves the right to change, reduce, or expand the duties of this position at any time. HR Information Systems

  • Serve as the primary HR point of contact for UKG Pro and UKG Ready for the Camden Kroc Center.
  • Assist employees with account lockouts and password resets. Refer complex technical issues to IT.
  • Assist employees with general UKG questions and concerns, escalating questions to DHQ HR or IT.

Recruiting

  • Support Managers/Department Heads through the recruiting and hiring process for open positions at the Kroc Center.
  • Work with the hiring manager to submit new hire/rehire requests through the HR Self-Service Portal for DHQ review and approval.
  • Create and edit job postings for approved positions, posting internally and externally.
  • Assist hiring managers with interviews and reference checks, as needed.
  • Manage the Red Kettle Campaign hiring process for the Camden Kroc Center, processing applications through DHQ.
  • Manage employee new hire onboarding and Kroc orientation.
  • Assign and track KeepSAfe training for new hires in collaboration with the Divisional KeepSAfe Coordinator.
  • Coordinate with IT and managers on all new hires, transfers, and reclassifications to set up/modify employee accounts.

Performance & Development

  • Track completion and follow up with employees and managers as needed to support the divisional Annual Development Review and merit increase process.
  • Advise Corps Officers and managers on employee development, performance, & disciplinary issues, including designing performance improvement plans as appropriate.
  • Identify employee training needs, source internal and external training resources, and facilitate training as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with DHQ HR, create and implement HR resources, tools, and training for employees, managers, and Corps Officers.
  • Address minor employee relations concerns, escalating more complex issues to Kroc Administrators and DHQ HR as appropriate.
  • Assist employees and Officers with general & specific HR questions with excellent customer service.

Employee Relations

  • Serve as primary contact for all employee relations matters at the Kroc Center.
  • Investigate employee complaints or concerns, provide formal and informal counseling and coaching, and advise managers on the progressive discipline policy.
  • Escalate complex or sensitive matters to the Kroc Administrators or DHQ HR as appropriate.
  • Document employee investigations, performance concerns, and disciplinary actions.
  • Protect confidential information and use discernment on if/when to share private, sensitive information.

Culture & Engagement

  • Design and implement innovative employee engagement initiatives to promote community, peer recognition, and a sense of belonging for all Kroc Center employees.
  • Lead the Kroc Employee Committee in planning and executing Kroc employee events, including but not limited to holiday parties, employee appreciation events, and monthly gatherings.
  • Conduct regular Employee Pulse Surveys and present results and recommendations to Kroc Administrators and DHQ HR.
  • Facilitate training sessions and provide subject matter expertise on fostering a healthy organizational culture and attracting, engaging, and retaining passionate, committed employees.
  • Coordinate the Best Christian Workplaces Survey deployment and follow-up as needed.

Benefits & Leaves of Absence

  • Coordinate with Chesterfield and related vendors to promptly assist employees and dependents regarding TSA benefits, including health insurance, short-/long-term disability, life insurance, workers’ compensation, pension and retirement, and supplemental insurance (AFLAC).
  • Answer employee questions and concerns about group benefit programs and refer them to appropriate partner contacts (Chesterfield, Empower, Mutual of America, AFLAC, etc.) for further assistance when needed.
  • Provide advice, guidance, direction, and day-to-day support to managers, employees, and Officers on various benefits matters.
  • Initiate the leave administration process by submitting an HR ticket promptly after receiving notice of an imminent leave (FMLA, ASA, USERRA, etc.).
  • Work closely with employees to ensure all relevant medical documentation is completed and submitted to the appropriate parties (i.e., Chesterfield, DHQ HR, etc.) for timely review.
  • Ensure compliance with all FMLA/ADA notification requirements, communicating with employees promptly.
  • Actively engage in the interactive process with staff and managers to effectively manage medical/ADA job accommodation requests in collaboration with DHQ HR.
  • Protect all employee medical information, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local privacy laws.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with employees on leave and coordinate with Corps Officers/Managers on the return-to-work process.

Miscellaneous

  • Ensure The Salvation Army Kroc Center complies with all relevant federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Complete requests for employee job and income verifications and unemployment claims.
  • Assist with additional projects, employee events, and duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field.
  • At least three (3) years of experience working with HRIS applications, preferably UKG Pro.
  • At least three (3) years of proven experience in HR; HR Certification (PHR/SPHR) is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with solid attention to correct spelling and grammar.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to ADA, ADEA, Equal Pay Act (EPA), Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, GINA, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), FMLA, and HIPAA.
  • Advanced technological proficiency, including experience with Office 365 products (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Must understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission as a church and a social services organization.
