About this opportunity:This position is responsible for: Under the general supervision of the Corps Officer, the Service Center/Unit Manager, plans, directs, and participates in the day-to-day operation, management, and maintenance of a small Salvation Army Service Center with limited social services and a Thrift Store operation. Recruits and manages a limited staff and volunteer team. Prepares bookkeeping, sales, statistics, and payroll records. Participates in screening and providing services to clients. Represents The Salvation Army in the community. Monitors the receipt and processing of Thrift Store donations; ensures merchandise is properly priced and rotated in order to maximize store sales.
Key responsibilities:- Plans, directs, coordinates, supervises, and participates in the day-to-day operation of a Salvation Army Service Center and Thrift Store; ensures compliance with established policies and procedures; develops and implements improvements in operations in order to maximize service to the community.
- Supervises, schedules, and evaluates the work performed by Thrift Store staff and volunteers; trains staff and volunteers in the proper procedures for performing work; inspects work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations of staff.
- Supervises and coordinates the maintenance of the Service Center and Thrift Store equipment and facilities; ensures all equipment is properly maintained; coordinates maintenance and repair work with contractors when needed.
- Represents The Salvation Army to community Civic Clubs; builds and maintains positive, professional, and effective working relationships with community agencies providing social services; networks with other Human Service Centers in order to maintain awareness of community services and to promote awareness of Salvation Army social services.
- Recruits volunteers for all aspects of The Salvation Army; prepares and maintains accurate personnel records; documents disciplinary actions carefully and ensures the supervisor remains informed and aware of disciplinary actions; ensures the confidentiality of the same.
- Plans and organizes food drives in order to keep the food pantry well stocked to meet program needs.
- Receives and receipts all donations; sorts and stocks merchandise; coordinates and monitors the rotation system of merchandise and directs the pricing of merchandise in order to maximize store sales.
- Prepares and makes daily sales deposits for the Thrift Store; ensures the security and accountability of all store funds.
- Interview clients in order to determine needs and provide appropriate assistance and referrals.
- Pays and disburses funds for approved financial assistance and service unit bills; maintains and processes payroll records; purchases store and cleaning supplies necessary for program operations.
- Maintains up-to-date social service case history files on all clients; maintains the confidentiality of the same.
- Ensures the Service Center office and store is maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
- Prepares and maintains statistical, bookkeeping, and store sales records and reports; prepares annual reports and audits; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
- Prepares and maintains accurate volunteer records; plans recognition of volunteers; works to retain volunteers.
- Prepares and presents monthly reports to The Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters and the local Advisory Council.
- Holds regular staff meetings with employees to ensure open and regular communication occurs.
- Pick-up and deliver mail to the post office daily.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates the Thanksgiving and Christmas Programs.
What we are looking for in you:- High School Diploma or G.E.D. AND
- Three (3) years’ experience performing progressively responsible social services work or retail sales or accounting/finance experience with supervisory and bookkeeping responsibilities; OR
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations.
- Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
- Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
