Job Summary
Responsible for being knowledgeable of the geographical area assigned and operates the vehicle within state / federal statutes and / or guidelines.
Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public. Acquires pick-up tickets and completes route in the most efficient manner.
Load donations on the truck in the most organized manner to allow as many pickups as possible on each truck load and to minimize damage / breakage.
Clean and secure the vehicle and equipment; conduct daily inspections of the vehicle’s oil, water, tires, and other items of the vehicle to maintain good operating condition.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of assigned geographical area. Ability to organize pick-up tickets and to schedule route in a manner that saves time and fuel.
Ability to work effectively and efficiently with a variety of personalities. Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in the English language.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred but not required and one year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Driver’s License
Valid DOT Medical Card
Valid Commercial Driver’s License, desired but not required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read and follow a map and / or hand-written directions. Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public to respond to official inquiries and to make entries on reports and records.
Ability to successfully work with a variety of personalities and people in a positive manner. Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck.
Ability to follow DOT regulations and safety standards.
Moderate amount of strenuous physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy objects (generally over 100 lbs.) 25-50% of work time.
