The Salvation Army is Hiring a Workforce/Education Coordinator Near Birmingham, AL

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, is searching for a Workforce/Education Coordinator for the Birmingham Area Command Center of Hope in Birmingham, AL. This non-exempt role will primarily work 10A to 6PM or 11A to 7PM during the work week and will rotate every 3rd Saturday to assist both the client and community partners with programs/classes and services.
Job Summary: Working in conjunction with the Workforce Education Director and team, empowers the clients by providing comprehensive support and guidance to those seeking educational / career development and advancement. Works collaboratively with clients to assess needs, develop personalized plans, connect essential resources, and provide ongoing support to achieve client educational and employment goals. Work with and builds strong relationships with our Community Partners that provide classes, programs and services and with potential new partners. Supervises, coordinates, monitors and participates in the day-to-day operations of the Workforce/Education programs/classes/training at the Center of Hope; supervises and participates in the programs and casework performed by program staff ensuring compliance with program policies and procedures; prepares statistical reports for grants and assists with grant applications, Annual Performance Reports (APRs), and other grant documentations (e.g., statistical reports) to local, state, and federal funding sources; ensures compliance of rules and regulations of grants.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of practices and principles social service program administration. Knowledge of the principles and practices of social service case management and preparation of grant documentation. Knowledge of social service resources and agencies in the community. Knowledge of effective communication and motivation practices. Ability to lead, motivate, and evaluate the work of staff performing same or similar work. Ability to develop, implement, and enforce program policies and procedures. Ability to interview clients in order to evaluate and serve their needs. Ability to determine client eligibility for program assistance based on specific program guidelines and restrictions. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with the public and community agencies. Ability to prepare accurate and complete client records, reports, and statistics.
Education and Experience: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or a related field, and two years progressively responsible experience performing social services work with at least one year in a supervisory capacity, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid Driver’s License Required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform mathematical calculations. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
