Job Summary:
The Youth Development Program Director is responsible for managing staff and overseeing comprehensive child case management services including academic needs and issues related to experiences associated with homelessness. The Youth Development Program Director is responsible for the assessment of each child housed in the residential programs at the Purdue Center of Hope. The Youth Development Program Director oversees screenings, intakes, documentation, and the development of assessment-based care plans to coordinate services for all youth. Assessments include mental/physical health, academics, family, daycare, and legal matters with a focus on a safe, self-sufficient, and stable family unification. The Youth Development Program Director coordinates a comprehensive team that includes, academic tutors, child watch workers, coordinators, and case managers. The Youth Development Program Director utilizes evidenced-based practices to support the attainment of needed goals; serves as the on-call supervisor for daily and overnight emergencies related to the children as well as the legal liaison for parents and children.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Social service management techniques, youth development operations, youth programs, childcare program operations, social services program operations and/or childcare facility operations; knowledge of trauma-informed care practices/techniques; knowledge of principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development; knowledge of principles and practices of early childhood, middle and high school curriculum development; knowledge of Adverse Child Experiences as relates to parenting and child behavior; knowledge of the principles and practices of crisis intervention; knowledge of social service resources and agencies in the community; ability to plan, develop, and implement effective youth programs and activities; ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines; ability to manage stressful situations and follow emergency procedures appropriately; ability to make decisions and meet commitments within established policies and procedures and handle sensitive situations appropriately with children, youth and parents; Ability to demonstrate good verbal and written communication and proper electronic and telephone communication etiquette; ability to build and maintain effective and professional working relationships with clients and community agencies; pass criminal background history check.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Human Services, or a related social services field, (Masters preferred) AND two years of experience in child education or behavioral sciences field OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements; ability to read, write, and communicate the English language; duties are usually performed seated; sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking; limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying objects (less than 50 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Work is performed in an environment where there may be a little physical discomfort associated with changes in temperature, physical effort associated with cleaning as well as discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.
