Department: Housekeeping

Reports to: Director of Housekeeping

Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Hourly Rate: $22.00

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the housekeeping department and supervising the Public Area Attendants. This position involves the direct supervision of a team of public area attendants, guiding their daily activities to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all public spaces, including lobbies, restrooms, auditoriums, and other common areas. The Housekeeping Supervisor is tasked with developing and implementing efficient cleaning schedules, conducting regular inspections to identify and address any cleanliness or maintenance issues, and ensuring that the team is well-trained and equipped to perform their duties effectively. The Housekeeping Supervisor will manage inventory levels of cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring timely procurement and proper storage. Additionally, the supervisor will collaborate with other departments to coordinate cleaning efforts before, during, and after events, ensuring seamless operations and a positive experience for all visitors. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to swiftly address and resolve any issues or complaints related to housekeeping services. By fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork, the Housekeeping Supervisor plays a key role in upholding the organization’s reputation for a clean, safe, and inviting environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a team of public area attendants, ensuring they follow proper cleaning protocols and safety standards of all offices, concourses, seating areas, washrooms, exterior facades, concession stands, and all public spaces.
  • Develop and implement cleaning schedules, assigning tasks to staff, and adjusting as necessary based on event schedules.
  • Train new housekeeping staff on cleaning procedures, equipment usage, and safety protocols.
  • Supervise, train, coach, and counsel employees.
  • Monitor and evaluate employee performance.
  • Identify, address, and manage employee conflict and effective resolutions.
  • Ensure Housekeeping team members adhere to the organization and departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Coordinate shift changes and breaks under the guidance of Housekeeping leadership.
  • Coordinate the distribution of special projects to the Public Area Attendant to ensure a balanced workflow.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative working environment and nurture team member morale.
  • Conduct regular inspections of public areas to ensure cleanliness and report any maintenance issues.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, placing orders as needed and ensuring proper storage and usage.
  • Address and resolve any guest complaints or issues related to cleanliness promptly and professionally.
  • Collaborate with other departments to coordinate cleaning efforts before and after events.
  • Prepare and maintain records, including timesheets, inspection reports, and inventory logs.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, promoting a safe working environment for staff and patrons.
  • Assist with cleaning duties as needed to support the team during busy periods or staff shortages.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

Required Education, and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in Housekeeping or janitorial services, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Ability to supervise, coach, and mentor staff.
  • Previous experience with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems.

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English is required; other languages such as Spanish are preferred.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to examine and evaluate data and report findings.
  • Highly organized and superior attention to detail while coordinating and performing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Superior attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, and best practices in housekeeping cleanliness procedures.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Computer Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of and ability to use word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and internet-based applications.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite, with a particular emphasis on Word and Excel.

  • Ability to safely operate motorized equipment.
  • Ability to frequently reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel, and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.
  • Ability to physically stand, walk, and climb stairs on a consistent basis.
  • The physical ability to use both hands for continuous grasping.
  • This position could be exposed to loud noises, and frequent phone conversations, and requires average to above average visual acuity and hearing.
  • Most of this job will be performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
