The Standard Group is Hiring a Press Operator Near Lancaster, PA

Job DescriptionThe Standard Group, a premier print management and marketing logistics company, is seeking a Press Operator to help grow our team in our Print and Technology Center in Lititz, PA. The primary purpose of the Press Operator position is to coordinate and assume responsibility for the operation of the press assigned. This includes all phases of operation (makeready, run, washup, and maintenance). This position is rotating 8-hour shifts depending upon the press assignment with overtime and weekends as assigned.
The Standard Group offers a salary commensurate with experience and a competitive benefits package that includes paid time off, paid holidays, medical, dental and 401K. Background checks may be required.
Some Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Makeready
  • Reads and understands the job ticket before beginning the assigned job, reporting any questions or problems to the Project Manager.
  • Prepares blankets and measures blanket height with packing gauge.
  • Mixes dampening solution, tests and adjusts conductivity of solution.
  • Loads ink in fountain, prepares the ink, sets keys and places fountain dividers as needed.
  • Changes ink rollers and sets pressure when necessary.
  • Uses side guide marks for checking registration
  • Performs register setup.
  • Achieves color "OK" (match/approval) to proofs after checking the requirements and matching specifications:
  • Performs and/or directs the Press Assistant in any other responsibilities relating to the makeready phase of the press.
Running
  • Matches color during run with color "OK."
  • Checks press sheets for marks and abrasions on both sides of the sheet.
  • Records the quantity of good sheets finished on the job ticket and press log.
  • Performs and/or directs the Press Assistant in any other responsibilities relating to the run phase of the press.
Washup
  • Washes the ink system.
  • Cleans the water system.
  • Cleans blankets and prepares them for storage.
  • Performs general cleanup of the press and press area, returning tools and supplies to storage.
  • Cleans all bearers and cylinders.
  • Performs and/or directs the Press Assistant in any other responsibilities relating to the washup phase of the press.
Press Support
  • Operates material handling equipment to move raw materials, supplies, and finished products.
  • Properly handles and disposes pressroom waste materials.
  • Responsible, along with the Press Assistant, for keeping the assigned press and work area clean and orderly.
  • Moves finished stock to waiting area for bindery/finishing.
  • Performs paper loading and turning.
  • On occasion, mixes ink to desired specifications.
  • Mixes chemicals when necessary.
Relationships: Reports to and receives supervision, training, evaluation, coaching and assistance from the Plant Manager. When assigned a Press Assistant, supervises, trains, evaluates, coaches, and assists the Press Assistant. Works as a team with the assigned Press Assistant in order to operate and maintain the press. Works closely with other Press department employees in fulfilling the various responsibilities of the position. Interacts with other production group employees and managers, CSR's, and other support group employees.
Knowledge and Skills Required: A thorough understanding of the commercial printing process including the makeready, run, washup, and maintenance of sheetfed presses. Previous experience as a Press Operator or Press Assistant. Strong problem solving skills on press operations. Good mechanical and math skills. Ability to read job tickets and interpret instructions. Must be able to operate lift and material handling equipment. Strong interpersonal communication and supervisory skills. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Willingness to learn to operate all of the presses.
Mental and Physical Requirements: The Press Operator must be able to fulfill the following job related functions: hear and speak effectively in order to communicate with customers, vendors, and employees; read both handwritten and typed notes and computer screens; write and type documents and messages; interpret and comprehend instructions; evaluate their own work and the work of their Press Assistant; adapt to changes in customer specifications and standard operating procedures; handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize them; work under conditions caused by deadlines; bend, stretch, reach, and kneel to perform duties of the position; lift and move at least 50 pounds; and follow all safety standards for pressroom employees in accordance with OSHA regulations. Must also be able to satisfy the Knowledge and Skills requirements and fulfill the responsibilities of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation (as defined in the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990).
