MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in building construction or engineering and one (1) year of experience in equipment maintenance, building maintenance or building construction.
Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
Requires possession of a valid driver license.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six (6) months of appointment. The Florida Forest Service will cover the majority of the cost associated with attaining the required CDL training and the initial CDL test when administered at an agency authorized CDL training center.
The incumbent of this position is subject to pre-employment, post accident, random and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing, and the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse query requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations, Title 49, Part 382, CFR.
Successful completion of a drug test is a condition of employment in the position in accordance with Section 112.0455 F.S. “Drug Test’ means any chemical, biological or physical instrumental analysis administered for the purpose of determining the presence or absence of a drug or its metabolites.
Occasional to moderate travel required.
Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

JOB DUTIES:
Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner. Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with division and department policies and procedures.
Plans and directs the design, construction, repair, and maintenance of forest roads on the Withlacoochee and Seminole State Forests, including all CARL lands.
Develops schedules and improves routine road improvements/grading of all main forest roads. Ensures through supervision and oversight that forest road maintenance complies with Best Management Practices and Water Management District regulations, and all required permits are secured from all the necessary agencies prior to initiation of work. Plans and supervises the replacement and maintenance of all waterway crossings to include the installation/repair of road culverts, low water crossings and multiple span bridges. Contracts for routine engineering inspections of forest bridges to comply with Department of Transportation standards.
Responsible for the training and supervision of Park Rangers. This position is responsible for keeping records of activities and supervision of all field work and personnel associated with these activities. This position is responsible for calculation of field data and assembling it into permanent files for use in the state lands management program.
Performs heavy construction related projects throughout the Withlacoochee Forestry Center. This work can include building demolition, building site preparation, trenching, recreation construction projects, etc.
Plans and supervises a preventative maintenance and repair program for assigned forestry and road equipment as well as various farm machinery and construction equipment necessary for the completion of assigned work projects.
Ensures through supervision and oversight that forest roads are properly maintained, and that road maintenance complies with Best Management Practices and Water Management District regulations, and that all required permits are secured prior to initiation of work. Ensures that any new roads or bridges built meet all applicable engineering standards.
Plans and supervises local state forest bridge inspection. Consults with bridge design engineers on design technology; reads blueprints; supervises bridge construction/reconstruction. Manages bridge materials inventory. Maintains inventory of signs and posts bridge warning signs as required by law.
Performs other-related duties as assigned.
