The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) currently has a vacancy for an unclassified Special Investigator in the Transportation Division. The selected candidate must live in or be willing to locate to Greeley, Wichita, Scott, Lane, Ness, Rush, Hamilton, Kearny, Finney, Hodgeman, Stanton, Grant, Haskell, Grey, Ford, Edwards, Morton, Stevens, Seward, Meade, Clark or Comanche counties in Kansas. The KCC is a multi-faceted agency responsible for regulating public utilities including electric, natural gas, telecommunication and water companies as well as motor carriers, oil and gas pipelines and oil and gas natural production. The Commission’s headquarters is in Topeka with the central Conservation office in Wichita and four Conservation district offices located in Dodge City, Wichita, Chanute and Hays.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position will serve as a Special Investigator in Western Kansas for the KCC Transportation Division. Candidate must live or be willing to relocate to Greeley, Wichita, Scott, Lane, Ness, Rush, Hamilton, Kearny, Finney, Hodgeman, Stanton, Grant, Haskell, Grey, Ford, Edwards, Morton, Stevens, Seward, Meade, Clark or Comanche counties in Kansas. There will be frequent travel within the designated area with minimal overnight stays.


Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Answer questions regarding the state and federal Transportation regulations.
  • Provide educational training.
  • Investigate complaints.
  • Conduct commercial motor vehicle inspection and auditing of motor carriers.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years investigating, fact finding or enforcing state or federal laws and regulations. Education in communications, psychology, social work, public or business administration, criminal justice or law may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Criteria:

Experience writing reports

Demonstration of effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
  • Prior experience conducting investigations, but not required
  • Ability to work remotely & independently and establish daily work schedule with input from supervisor
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the state and federal Transportation Safety and Hazardous Materials Regulations.

Licenses/Certificates:

  • A valid driver's license is required.
