The STEM Alliance is Hiring a Co-Op: Lifeguard (Summer Only) Near Mamaroneck, NY

Lifeguard

Co-Op Summer Enrichment is a summer program for low income children that emphasizes STEM enrichment alongside camp programming that infuses the joy of summer into all that we do. Are you looking for a fun summer job? Do you also want to make a difference? Join us at Co-Op Camp! We are hiring team members who are eager to be a part of a program that emphasizes STEM learning, mentoring connections, and summer fun! 

What you'll be doing


You’re joining a team in a fast paced summer camp environment. Most of what you will be responsible for is listed below but roles and discrete tasks can change. At Co-Op you will do much of these tasks:


  • Serve as a lifeguard for an elementary enrichment program that serves up to 245 children grades 1st-6th

  • Enforce all pool rules in a consistent manner

  • Identify potential accident hazards

  • Be alert or prevent accidents (risk management)

  • Handle discipline situations with courtesy and fairness

  • Respond quickly, intelligently, decisively and in accordance with established emergency and accident management procedures

  • Administer first aid and CPR as required per certification training

  • Stay informed and aware of safety devices such as Defibrillator

  • Collaborate & communicate with other lifeguards and supervisors

  • Facilitate public relations with a positive and professional attitude, courtesy and tact

  • Fill out appropriate reports as needed

  • Participate fully in orientation experiences and weekly staff meetings

  • Assist all counselors with logistics of entering and exiting the locker rooms and pool area

  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisors

  • Lead recreation experiences on days when the pool is closed and during our other special days

  • Model and enforce all Covid safety requirements at all times 

What you bring


First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is warm, friendly and values teamwork. We want you to join us to help children and then keep coming back because you love our community. Did you know that 10% of our staff have been working for us for 5 or more years?. Also significant is that you have a desire to serve others and learn how STEM education and summer learning can create positive outcomes for children. Lastly, we would need you to be ready to take on a full time summer job for all six weeks and do your best in a supportive and professional environment.


Requirements:

  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification

  • Must be at least 16 years old

  • VACCINATION REQUIREMENT 

  • Two references - only one can be a personal (non-family) reference 

Besides that you might:


  • Have past experience working with children or helping others

  • Seek a job where you can make a difference in the lives of kids

  • Are ready to meet and work with other local teens, educators and nonprofit leaders from diverse backgrounds

  • Want to know what Color Wars is and be already planning to win the annual trophy

  • Are Bilingual (Spanish/English)

REQUIRED PROGRAM DATES & TIMES: 

June 26, 2023 to August 4, 2023 

8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Wednesday (weekly staff Meeting)

*all program start and end times/dates subject to change until program design is complete by June 1st

SALARY

  • Base salary $3,625 - $4,000 (based on experience)

  • Performance Bonus - up to $500

  • Re-signing Bonus - $100

    • for previous Co-Op Counselors if application is submitted before April 1, 2023

  • Base Salary paid bi-monthly in July and August (3 payments total)

  • All bonus payments paid in the last salary check
