Middle School Co-Op Head Counselor
RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a co-leader of a dedicated group of middle school students for a two (2) week program that serves incoming 6th grade students
Teach and mentor the Assistant Counselor to give direct guidance and instructions for maximum effectiveness
Help implement a design thinking program in which all students, faculty and administrators are equal stakeholders in the learning environment
Supervise and assist children in all of their activities with the goals of:
Promoting collaboration among children & staff
Establishing a mutual attitude of caring among all children & staff
Assisting children with acquiring new skills during their program blocks
Infusing all activities with fun
Participate fully and with enthusiasm in all orientation week training sessions
Serve as a role model for children by:
Arriving on time and fully ready to participate
Working as a team member with other counselors, assistant counselors and staff
Taking joy in learning new things with the children
Supporting a drug free, screen free, healthy environment
Serve on a team of counselors to develop and manage a “minor” room that offers learning experiences for kids
Close each day organizing and restocking your assigned “minor” room
Teach and assist during program blocks in a variety of areas such as music, technology, science, sports, recreation, and design thinking
Swim with children and provide direct swimming instruction based upon training guidelines
Eat lunch with your assigned group, supervise their behavior in the lunchroom and promote positive free play during recess
Enforce the highest level of safety for children at all times including
Maintain accurate attendance records on a daily basis
Be responsible for keeping confidential student emergency data accessible at all times
REQUIREMENTS
Head Counselors must be at least 19 years old by July 1, 2022 or entering their Sophomore year of college
Must have completed high school or GED
High preference given to applicants with previous experience working with youth
Social security card and state identification
Fingerprinting for any non-Mamaroneck School District employee or any new employee (previously fingerprinted Co-Op counselors do not need to be fingerprinted again)
High swimming competency
Two references - only one can be a personal (non-family) reference

REQUIRED PROGRAM DATES & TIMES: Including orientation, Middle School Co-Op employees will be working from:
June 28 - July 14, 2023
8:00 AM. to 3:30 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Wednesday (weekly staff Meeting)
