Job DescriptionThe stress engineer will support an important project focused on improving the dispatch reliability of the ship. The stress engineer will support Stress on several individual projects at a time to ensure overall continuous progress on the greater project. A typical individual project will consist of the following start-to-finish steps for the stress engineer:
Coordinate with the design engineer to understand the design constraints, current build configuration, and NDT (non-destructive test) results of the project area of interest
Identify required design loads, load factors, and expected margins of safety
Using the software and analysis tools defined below be capable of defining required sizing of parts
Coordinate required part sizing with the design engineer
Create stress report and release report in VG’s PLM (Product Life Cycle) management software
The Skills Required Of The Stress Engineer Include
FEMAP experience
HyperSizer or HyperX experience preferred
Matlab experience
Lots of Excel
Experience analyzing composite structures
Ability to work on a project where there is not strict adherence to FAA Part 23/25 regulations (they do not apply), but can lean on Part 23/25 experience to make smart analytical judgement calls.
Can efficiently process technical data to make decisions and define associated risk acceptance
Comprehension and analysis understanding of NDT results
Experience coordinating with Design and Operations. We work hand-in-hand with the Operations team.
Be physically capable of accessing the area of concern on vehicle to understand constraints and answer questions throughout the project
QualificationsKey Skills: CATIA V5, Femap, Nastran, MRB Stress, COMPOSITES and HAND CALCS / CLASSICAL ANALYSIS
Experience in aircraft or spacecraft composite fabrication, design, and analysis processes
Knowledge of composites manufacturing and sizing of composite structures using FEA models, including pre and post processing of NASTRAN models and associated sizing of composite structures
Minimum 10 years or more of applicable experience in the analysis of structural systems using strength of materials and finite element based methods
Experience with free-body diagrams and classical stress analysis techniques
Hands-on experience with composites part fabrication and assembly processes and proficiency in FEMAP a must.
Pilot, aircraft homebuilding and rapid prototyping experience a strong plus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
Excellent computer skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Experience with the design of flight vehicles or vehicle systems to a set of requirements or standards such as CFR 14, Part 400, Part 23 and 25, military or NASA are highly desired
Experience with manufacturing-based ERP systems, such as Oracle, is a plus Applicants
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, with a concentration in a relevant Engineering discipline
