The Summit YMCA, a branch of the Summit Area YMCA (SAY), is seeking lively Lifeguards to join our aquatics team and keep our Y family safe while at the pool. The Lifeguard maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. They create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with Y policies and procedures.

Salary range for this role is $16.75 -$19/hour, based on experience. This Part Time position is scheduled to work up to 25 hours per week. The current available shifts include Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 1:00pm, other daytime weekday shifts and weekends are available. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The Lifeguard must be able to pass lifeguard water test, remain alert, sit or stand for extended periods, have adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals in the pool area. They must be able to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision, perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue, to communicate verbally, including projecting their voice across distance in normal and loud situations. They also must be able to lift handicap stairs in and out of the pool with or without assistance. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands or arms; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may be required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear.
*Swim skills necessary include the ability to complete 300 yards (12 lengths) of continuous swimming using front crawl or breaststroke, tread water for 2 min using only legs, and retrieve a 10-lb dive weight from 7 ft deep, surface and swim 20 yds with the weight, using legs only and exit the pool without using a ladder within 100 seconds.
