The senior level R&D Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading research and development projects as well as a team of mechanical designers. Projects will span all TTC Divisions and Brands. Works with team and division leadership to determine viability and scheduling of projects. Works with the cross functional team to execute project plans to develop prototypes that provide innovative solutions to support customer needs.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for: 
  • Work with customers and product marketing to identify product opportunities based on customer needs and values.
  • Work as part of the R&D leadership team to create product/project visions that create new product concepts or enhancements that create value for the end customer.
  • Directs a mechanical design team responsible for executing prototype design and construction.
  • Participates in the design, analysis and testing of prototype systems to evaluate the functionality and feasibility of product concepts.
  • Support the transition of concepts to development through documentation, written and oral reports, and participation in development team meetings.
  • Provides solutions to complex and challenging design issues while balancing workload among multiple projects and priorities.
  • Keeps abreast of new technological developments, components, concepts, materials, manufacturing processes and competitive environment.
Work Environment
  • Office environment most of the time with regular trips to shop and test labs.
  • Occasional travel to remote test sites, division locations, customers sites, trades shows and conferences.
  • Work with cross functional team supporting multiple projects of varied complexity.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements: 
  • Professional Engineering license, or
  • Bachelors degree in an ABET accredited Mechanical, Aeronautical or Agricultural engineering program or
  • Masters degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical or Agricultural engineering from a university with an ABET accredited undergraduate engineering program
  • Experience/Skills
    • ME IV - 7 years minimum experience / management of complex projects.
    • ME V - 10 years minimum experience / successful creation and execution of complex project plans.
    • ME VI - 15 years minimum experience / successful technical strategist.
  • Experience with multiple product lines or technologies across multiple customer preferred.
  • Strong interest in mobile equipment design and operation.
This is an onsite position, with potential of working from home 1 day a week.
