The Town of Mills River Parks and Recreation department’s mission is to provide quality recreational facilities, parks, and programs, which are safe, diverse, and enriching to the Mills River Community. We are seeking an experienced individual to work as a Maintenance Technician for our Parks and Recreation department in Mills River, NC. This role will work with the Maintenance Team to ensure the maintenance and upkeep of our parks and recreational facilities through landscaping, facility cleaning and general maintenance which can include basic plumbing, carpentry, concrete and electrical work. This is a Monday through Friday, 8AM to 4PM position but there will be occasional times when the Maintenance Technician will need to work on weekends for community-wide special events.

Town of Mills River is seeking an individual who possesses the following:

• High school diploma, or GED
• One or more years’ experience in groundskeeping, turf maintenance, athletic field maintenance, construction, park maintenance or other related fields.

· Knowledge of minor carpentry, plumbing, concrete, and electrical practices.

· Skill and ability in the operation of assigned equipment and tools.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other departments, public officials, and the general public.

The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the following:

· Performs a variety of manual, semi-skilled, and skilled maintenance, and repair work of Town parks and recreation facilities.

· Mows, trims, waters, aerates, prunes, weeds, and fertilizes grass, plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs.

· Cleaning of park restrooms and other facilities.

· Operates specialized equipment such as power mowers, chain saws, fertilizer spreaders, aerators, tractors, and other equipment.

· Inspects, maintains, and repairs playground equipment and fences.

· Performs basic carpentry, plumbing, concrete, and electrical work.

· Sprays various fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other related chemicals in Town parks and recreation areas.

· Follows proper safety procedures and precautions in relation to all work performed.

· Drives vehicles and operates equipment as required.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.
