Job Title: Regional Vice President, Central and Valley

Pay Range: $145,000 – $165,000

Role Description:

The Regional Vice President oversees the operations and performance of the Valley & Central region, from Ashfield to Leominster, and is responsible for regional planning, staff management, contributing to organization-wide strategy, driving resource care advancements, budget management, achieving financial targets, community engagement and ensuring an inclusive visitor experience. This includes building more comprehensive and enduring connections with the community and more deeply integrating the Hilltown Land Trust into The Trustees as we seek to increase our pace of land conservation in that region.

Oversight of Tully Lake Campground in Royalston is a key focus of the role as is ensuring an active presence in Holyoke and at the Doyle Community Park in Leominster. The Regional Vice President will also oversee coordination of trails management with teams in other regions, as well as stellar property stewardship and cultivation of local partnerships across the Central and Valley region.

Role Function:

Regional Management:

• Plan and oversee operations in the region to ensure that goals are met

• Lead regional planning to deepen impact, sustainability and relevance in our communities, and ensure alignment with statewide priorities and standards (e.g. stewardship, land conservation, cultural resources, engagement, enterprise, agriculture, ecology).

• Set and monitor KPIs for each division in the region.

• Manage and develop staff, with a focus on talent development and improving employee experience in the region

• Contribute to organization-wide strategy and planning, and support organization-wide priorities such as environmental sustainability and DBIE

• Manage budget, monitor overall financial health and achieve financial targets across earned revenue streams (admissions, programs, enterprise, events), with a focus on improving net position

• Ensure the region meets its earned revenue goal of approximately $200k

• Ensure the regional teams work within the annual expense budget

• Lead a regional team with a deep commitment to building an environment that respects and values diversity, belonging, inclusion, and equity in both the staff and visitor experience

Property Stewardship:

• Manage care of properties & deferred maintenance

• Develop a long-term resource management plan

• Collaborate with central stewardship team for capital projects and baseline stewardship standards

• Ensure that buildings, trails, and assets are cared for and maintained

• Ensure that the visitor experience meets our Trustees standards

Community & Partnerships:

• Identify and cultivate new prospects (donors, governance) and work in partnership with development to manage relationships

• Support expanded community presence and partnerships in the region and deepen existing partnerships

• Build local partnerships and manage relationships with town and local officials and the greater local community, create deeper awareness and affinity with The Trustees’ mission and impact, and seek local/public funding to support our work

• Actively collaborate with subject matter experts & statewide teams (e.g. ecology, stewardship, horticulture) to manage resources effectively (human, natural, financial, cultural), support the mission, and promote financial sustainability across the region

• Partner with Hilltown Land Trust to support their land conservation efforts in the region

Job Qualifications:

• 8 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in land conservation, parks & trails stewardship, or property management

• 8 years of kind, empathetic, and people-focused management experience

• Experience building and maintaining community and organizational partnerships,

• Experience working with Board leaders (Hilltown Land Trust) to execute on mission and strategy

• Budget management expertise, both managing expenses and revenue targets

• Excellent communication and presentation skills

• Ability to think strategically and collaborate with subject matter experts to align tactical and strategic initiatives

• Knowledge of the conservation landscape in Massachusetts

• Strong dedication to process and policy development with a focus on workplace safety

• Bachelor’s degree preferred

• Eagerness to protect and conserve the natural world

• Excitement to spend time in nature understanding how our properties are maintained and what it takes to make The Trustees mission a reality.
