Job Description:

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine (UCM), as the Senior Vice President (SVP), Community Health Transformation & Chief Equity Officer . We are seeking a dynamic leader to guide an integrated approach to unify resources and strategies of the organization and community to meet the healthcare needs of our surrounding neighborhoods on the south side. This person will also lead UCMs Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategy by developing and implementing equity policies and practices across the health system. With a direct reporting relationship, the successful candidate will be a strategic partner to the President of University of Chicago Health System. The SVP will lead by example, setting clear vision and performance expectations in an environment of participation and collaboration with senior leadership, physicians, team and community members. The role will be responsible for the design and execution of innovative solutions to meet UCMs community health management strategy. Responsible for leading the Urban Health Initiative (UHI), you will administer our population health and community benefit programs. Success will be defined by your ability to develop lasting relationships with civic leaders, community organizations, health care providers and residents to strategically improve health and access for sustainable quality care on the south side of Chicago. You will not only continue to build systems and programs that inspire patient confidence within the South Side Health Collaborative, but also boost and cultivate an inclusive workplace culture where all employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their best work for the UChicago Medicine organization.

Who you are:

  • Bachelors degree required. Masters degree in Public Health, Business Administration or a related field strongly preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in a senior leadership role responsible for strategic planning and implementation to include a sound knowledge of health care administration with business acumen, strategic planning, and strong organizational skills.
  • A proven track record of improvement within an organization for areas of equity, diversity and inclusion through increased awareness in the community and representation within the organization.
  • Significant experience in public or community health strategy, population health management or a related field with a focus on improving care delivery for vulnerable populations.
  • Experience in designing effective models for improvement in health outcomes.
  • Possess a proven track record of leading high performing teams, developing successful evidence-based interventions, and authentic community engagement and partnerships.
  • Proven ability to achieve results in a matrixed organization through strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Articulate the importance of delivering high quality clinical outcomes in areas of community health needs and chronic illness while ensuring that successful operational and financial performance targets are met or exceeded annually through grant and other funding mechanisms.
  • Solid reputation as an individual who can provide sound leadership and build effective teams to maximize organizational success, along with leveraging shared services resources.
  • Demonstrate expertise in identifying opportunities to improve community access and equity leading to improved population health outcomes through managed care and medical informatics. This includes understanding the perspectives of the physician/provider/payer.

What youll do as the SVP, Community Health Transformation & Chief Equity Officer:

  • Commit to working closely with the managed care team and population health team to deliver UCMs capabilities in an equity focused environment in support of value-based requirements.
  • Lead the core operational functions of the Urban Health Initiative (UHI), in alignment with UCMs strategic priorities, including fostering efforts to positively impact the socioeconomic health of UCMs Service Area and the organization's visibility, image and relationship with its surrounding community.
  • Develop UCMs community benefit strategy and evaluate its impact on improving the health of the populations served by UCM and its surrounding communities.
  • Facilitate the cultural transformation of UCMs Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) strategy by developing and implementing equity policies and practices across the heath system. You will lead the development and implementation of strategies to cultivate an inclusive workplace culture where all employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their best work.
  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership, human resources, and other departments to integrate DEI principles into all aspects of organizational practices and policies, including the advancement of UCMs workforce diversity and equity strategy, and the sponsorship of workforce training and education resources related to DEI.
  • Mobilize, lead, and support the successful delivery of UCMs strategy to enhance the health of the local community in collaboration with other system leaders, payers, and community and government officials with a focus on Medicaid.
  • Conduct assessments and audits to identify areas for improvement and recommend solutions to address gaps in DEI initiatives.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in DEI and apply knowledge to continuously evolve and improve DEI efforts within the organization, while also building external relationships to strengthen the organizations reputation and commitment to DEI.
  • Foster efforts to positively impact the organizations visibility, image, and relationship with its surrounding community.
