At the Family Birth Center, we have two state-of-the-art operating rooms support optimized cesarean birth experiences, including bedside baby care at all acuity levels — even for twins and triplets. At the Family Birth Center, our experts perform "gentle" cesareans that support an inclusive delivery and bonding experience for patients and their families. 

Job Summary:

The Operating Room Technician assists the nursing and medical staff in providing care to patients undergoing surgical intervention and performance of surgical scrub technician duties; collaborates with RN and other discipline when necessary to revise plan of care to meet the changing needs of the patient.

Essential Job Functions 

  • Independently performs surgical scrub role on the operative field
  • Determines individual patient/surgeon needs and to adjust instrumentation and supplies according to those needs
  • Demonstrates infection control practices by utilizing proper aseptic technique while dealing with blood/body fluid
  • Correctly uses the gravity displacement sterilizer, Steris I processor and leak testing equipment
  • Properly selects the method of sterilization/disinfection/decontamination for instruments/supplies, endoscopes (flexible and rigid). Follows manufacturer’s recommendation for cleaning
  • Demonstrates organizational skills in case preparation, case cart picking and accurate room set ups for instrument and tray contents in scheduled cases. Sets up instruments, supplies and equipment according to MD's preference cards, policies and procedures and standards of care
  • Demonstrate knowledge of immediate and long term outcome of surgical activities including, but not limited to: sponge, needle and instrument count, aseptic technique, proper handling of specimens, proper labeling and handling of medications on sterile field and care of electrosurgical active electrodes and implants

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Graduate of recognized Operating Room Technician program
  • Operating Room Experience 

Position Details

  • Job Type/FTE: Full-Time, 0.9 FTE
  • Shift: Nights, every other weekend required
  • Unit/Department: Labor and Delivery
  • CBA Code: Non Union

In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 36 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the Night shift, from approximately 7pm-7am: varies and will be scheduled for on-call shifts. We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 100% at the Hyde Park campus. The days of the week that you are scheduled will vary depending on the week, but we anticipate that you will be scheduled to work on weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday) only every other week.
