Join UChicago Medicine, as an Patient Care Manager in our GI Department.
As a Patient Care Manager (PCM) you have the responsibility and accountability with the Care Center Clinical and Medical Directors for planning, organizing and directing of all activities related to patient-centered care, fostering nursing excellence and the retention and recruitment of staff on a designated unit in the care center.
Essential Job Functions
Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the budget within established guidelines.
Monitors the selection, use and control of the equipment and supplies of the unit.
Demonstrates 24-hour accountability for maintaining appropriate staffing levels.
Schedules staff in accordance with patient care needs and union contracts.
Evaluates staff performance on a formal and informal basis.
Complies with standards and regulations of various licensing, regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Demonstrates awareness of and compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
Participates in development and review of policies and procedures.
Serves on appropriate care center and organizational committees.
Creates a work climate that encourages positive staff morale, motivation, and commitment for all patient care team members.
Applies interpersonal communication skills to maintain an open network of communication among staff members, care center and sector leadership, and other health care professionals and departments.
Facilitates regularly scheduled staff meetings to provide opportunities for discussion of staff and unit concerns.
Provides and supports an environment which encourages staff to accept responsibility for learning as part of the development of their own professional practice.
Participates in the planning and evaluation of educational programs to meet unit needs and to promote staff development.
Develops, implements, and evaluates the unit-based orientation program for new employees. Collaborates with Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Assists in assuring that all staff are provided the opportunity to attend mandatory educational programs, in-services, and competency days per JCAHO regulations.
Serves as a role model for staff by presenting or arranging for educational programs.
Collaborates with the Patient Services Support Center/Academy Continuing Education Committee to plan, implement and evaluate nursing education activities.
