Daniels Career Services (DCS) supports approximately 1,600 undergraduate, 600 graduate students, plus alumni of DCB. The primary areas of operation are in student-facing advisory roles and in employer facing recruitment roles. The department operates under a cross-functional support model with Student Services, Office of Graduate Admissions and Marketing, Executive Education, Experiential Education and External Relations.

Position Summary

The University of Denver seeks an energetic, talented and innovative career coach and advisor for a full-time position in the Career Services office at the Daniels College of Business. The successful applicant will join a dedicated team that directly supports the career planning, development and employment outcomes for the students and alumni of the college. Priority is placed on developing and facilitating innovative and ground-breaking strategies, methodologies and programs that improve student and post-graduate
employment outcomes. This position will also support the instruction of the Daniels Professional Development Program, a one-credit course required business course focused on topics such as resume and cover letting writing, career exploration, interviewing and job search strategies and understanding the recruiting process.

Essential Functions

Coach & Advise Students: Work with both assigned and ad hoc groups of DCB
students and alumni in all aspects of career planning and job and internship search strategy. Use career services tools and data entry platforms to track and report student career progress. Communicate regularly with students, marketing/reaching out to them as appropriate on regular schedule. Develop and share both general and industry sector specific understanding of the related professions to help guide and inform student career paths. Manage a student caseload that requires managing your time, communicating and
following-up with students.
Resource Management: Develop, deploy and support career planning and professional development resources with the intended outcomes of improving student engagement and competencies and industry connectivity. Benchmark and assess the effectiveness of career services activities, programs and resources through data collection and analysis.
Career Programming Support: Serve as collaborator on numerous student
career preparation, student engagement and employer relations programs. A critical component of this role is to serve as a facilitator/instructor for the Daniels Professional Development Program core business course offered virtually and in-person. Develop strong relationships with academic department chairs, directors and faculty to facilitate the support of career and professional development activities and events. Collaborates with DCS Employer Relations, and cross-functionally with other student facing units, in supporting relevant career programming such as: orientation sessions, workshops, print and online resources for delivering career content to all Daniels students and alumni.
Research and Marketing of Career Resources and Lead Generation: Coordinate
with Daniels Career Services staff to create and distribute up-to-date career services
information relevant to current and prospective students and alumni. Collaborate and
communicate directly with employers, alumni, and corporate partners to create recruiting opportunities. Recommend specific companies and organizations to appropriate students.
Data Collection and Analytics Support: Work with team to identify opportunities for student engagement and outcomes reporting through data collection, tracking and analysis. Assist with collecting student employment data for internships and full-time offers. The position will support the collection of data and outcome reporting to MBA-CSEA, AACSB and NACE standards and guidelines for post-graduation outcomes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of theoretical knowledge of higher education issues such as student development, career counseling and the unique needs of non-traditional and students across a wide range of developmental stages, or a broad understanding of careers typically pursued by business students and early career professionals and an in-depth understanding of the college recruiting process.
  • Ability to interact with corporate recruiters to facilitate the successful recruitment of students.
  • Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, verbal/written communication skills. Ability to facilitate content in 1:1 settings to audiences greater than 50 individuals.
  • Familiarity with virtual communication platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc. and comfort with leveraging platforms for virtual instruction and facilitation.
  • Ability to communicate with as well as develop and maintain relationships with students from a wide variety of social, ethnic and economic backgrounds. In addition, the Assistant Director will interact with corporate representatives ranging from CEOs to new graduate business hires.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, including the ability to independently prioritize work, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set goals and enforce deadlines, while maintaining the flexibility to re-assess and prioritize goals.
  • Computer literacy, Microsoft software: Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to work with a high level of independence, perform under pressure, plan by anticipating problems and forecasting outcomes, and deal with difficult individuals while maintaining composure.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • 4 years of professional business experience focused on accountancy, product marketing and development, operations, consulting, or finance or combination of business and higher education experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree with a preference for Business Administration. Masters degree a plus.
  • At least 2 years of prior experience in a higher education and/or graduate management career services role, or a similar level of professional experience with recruiting or executive search.
  • Experience with recruiting software programs.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis.
  • Experience in content planning/development.
  • Active memberships in professional organizations and experience working and consulting with diverse populations.

Working Environment

1. Standard office environment.
2. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. In accordance with the University’s flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $58,000-$65,000

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
