Position Summary

Career Interest : Under the supervision of the nursing department’s management assists the perioperative care team in many aspects of patient care including but not limited to, patient care assistance, care of the environment, transportation of patients, supplies and equipment;

interacts with other departments; performs cleaning; restocks and orders supplies; setup equipment and provides support para-nursing & housekeeping functions in the Operating Room,& PACU

Responsibilities :

Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure

Scrubs, gowns and gloves

Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications / solutions needed for procedure

Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed

Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants

Helps in draping sterile field

Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure

Prepares sterile dressings

Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization

Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of room

Assists in prepping room for the next patient

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required :

• Successful completion of a nurse assistant training program. Knowledge of principals, methods and techniques involved in performing general operating room services and adapting or modifying standards of operating room practices for care of specific medical cases
• Current nursing assistant certification in the State of Kansas; BLS certification required or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment.

Preferred :

Additional certification may be required for certain patient care setting or populations. Specific information and the timeframe in which such certification must be attained will be provided by the department director / manager / supervisor at time of hire / transfer into department.
