The University of Kansas is Hiring an IT Support Technician Near Hutchinson, KS

Position Overview
The Hutchinson Campus consists of 173 acres with fifteen buildings, including two multi-story residential student dormitories.
The Hutchinson Campus is home to the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC). A unit of The University of Kansas (KU), KLETC serves as the central agency for all law enforcement training in the State of Kansas. KLETC manages a $12 million annual budget, 62 authorized FTE staff (augmented by more than 400 contract/adjunct staff annually), and trains nearly 10,000 students annually in residential, online, and outreach programs. KLETC serves 437 recognized law enforcement and police agencies in Kansas, providing basic training and continuing education programs throughout each fiscal year.
The IT Support Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining the smooth operation of our educational environment. They are responsible for providing technical support to a wide range of users and equipment, including staff, students, workstations, classroom technology, and other technology across the KLETC campus. This involves diagnosing and resolving issues with desktops, laptops, projectors, printers, software applications, network connectivity, and a variety of classroom audio / visual equipment. They will also provide in-person and remote assistance, train users on new technologies, and ensure all systems are running smoothly.

Job Description40% Act as the first line of technical support, fielding inquiries from staff and students via phone, email, chat, in-person meetings, or utilizing the onsite ticketing system. Leverage strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose the root cause of hardware and software issues. This could include troubleshooting and configuration of backup, networking, server, and wireless environments.
40% Serves as the primary point of contact for all workstations and classroom technology on the KLETC Campus. This encompasses the entire lifecycle of these systems, including their initial setup, configuration to meet specific needs, and ongoing troubleshooting of any technical malfunctions or user issues. Leverages Group Policy, MECM, SCCM, and Microsoft Defender to ensure consistent system configurations, streamline software deployment across the campus, and enforce security best practices.
15% Ensures accurate and up-to-date records of all hardware and software assets within the department, along with required IT documentation. Procuring new equipment when needed, ensuring it aligns with departmental requirements and adheres to KU IT purchasing policies. Manages existing hardware by applying software updates, security patches, and essential configurations, all while working collaboratively with KU IT to guarantee compliance with university-wide IT policies and procedures.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, lift equipment, and work on a ladder with or without accommodations.
  • Valid Kansas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED and two years of relevant experience, which could include supporting computer hardware and software with experience supporting Windows, Macintosh, and/or Linux Operating Systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree, technical college certificate, or higher degree in technology-related field.
  • Previous experience as a help desk technician, computer technician, or IT support.
  • Experience working with network and server management support.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving multiple issues in an enterprise environment.
