Position Overview
KU’s Institute for Health and Disability Policy Studies (IHDPS) is hiring a student hourly to work on grant-funded research projects related to health, community living and employment among adults with disabilities. This position will provide the student with an opportunity to learn about disability research and advocacy as part of a team that conducts research to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities across the country. The student hourly in this position will gain valuable research experience and mentorship from a research team with over 25 years of experience in the disability research field.
Job DescriptionThis position will provide support to research staff on federal and state-funded grant projects and will include tasks such as: literature reviews; data entry and cleaning; assistance with research participant recruitment; website maintenance; social media management; development of plain language materials; and general office tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled for the Fall 2024 semester at the University of Kansas (Lawrence) or the University of Kansas Medical Center preferably in Special Education, Applied Behavioral Science, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Health Education & Psychology or a related field. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
• Previous experience using Zoom and/or Teams, as evidenced in application materials.
• Previous work experience in all Microsoft Office programs, as evidenced in application materials.
• Demonstrated experience conducting research with human subjects (e.g. data entry, data cleaning, data analysis, IRB-related procedures and protocols, survey methodology) as evidenced in application materials.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, with supervision, to complete tasks in a timely, accurate manner with attention to detail as evidenced in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

• Lived experience of disability and/or experience working with individuals with disabilities, as demonstrated in application materials.
• Working knowledge of Medicaid, as evidenced in application materials.
• Experience in social media management, and creating and editing websites using the KU hosting platform (CMS), as demonstrated in application materials.
• Graduate student or junior/senior level undergraduate student.

Advertised Salary Range
Minimum $15.00/hour, commensurate with experience
