The University of Kansas is Hiring an UPK Student Acquisitions Intern Near Lawrence, KS
Job DescriptionThe University Press of Kansas Acquisitions Intern will assist UPK's Acquisitions Department. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about scholarly publishing and get hands-on experience in a relaxed, but professional work environment. For this competitive internship, applicants must provide an academic writing sample (at least 5 pages long.) Applicants for this position must be able to work a regular schedule of 10-20 hours a week and must remain enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at KU during the Spring 2024 semester or pre-enrolled for the Fall 2024 semester. Job Duties:25% Review proposals, evaluate manuscripts, and respond to submissions 25% Prepare projects for the Production Department and evaluate author-submitted art 20% Identify peer reviewers for submissions and prepare peer-review documents 10% Attend in-house and editorial committee meetings 10% Research potential book ideas and authors 10% Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications
Must have been enrolled n at least 6 credit hours at KU for the Spring 2024 Semester or pre-enrolled for the Fall 2024 semester.
Must be able to work a regular weekly schedule of 10 or more hours between 8 AM - 5 PM, Monday through Friday
Preferred Qualifications
Strong interest in a career in publishing
6 months or more work experience in editing and/or publishing, or 6 or more credit hours of related coursework as evidenced by application materials
Excellent communication, writing, organizational, and time management skills as evidenced through coursework and/or work history
Familiarity with research, writing, and copyediting
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style
