The University of Southern Mississippi is Hiring a Development coordinator Near Hattiesburg, MS

Coordinates alldevelopment activities for the DuBard School for Language Disorders includingcoordination with all related university entities, private donors, foundations,government granting agencies, state and local officers, legislators, andelected officials.

Works in concert with USM Foundation development staff andthe Office of the Dean of the College of Nursing & Health Professions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Researches, writes or co-writes, and oversees grant proposals to public and private funding sources. Facilitates research grant proposals to ensure adherence to guidelines and deadline requirements.

Researches potential additional sources of funding both public and private sources.

  • Maintains collaborative relationship between DuBard School and USM Foundation staff to develop concepts for external funding and maximize total gift revenue and plan solicitation strategies.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with donors and prospective donors with understanding and adherence to sensitive / related information as it pertains to HIPAA.

Creates monthly schedules of donor engagement, school tours, and attendance at community events. Acknowledges gifts from donors.

Completes monthly performance metric.

  • Facilitates the work of the Advisory Board and Finance and Development Committee. Oversees legislation that may potentially impact state and / or federal funding for DuBard School.
  • Develops and facilitates a strategic development plan. Oversees DuBard School’s annual fundraising campaign.
  • Adheres to University and department policies, procedures, and regulations and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degreefrom a four-year college or university with one to two years’ experience and / ortraining.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledgeof foundation and donor cultivation, development, and stewardship, as well as grantwriting research practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of stategovernment legislative procedures, practices, and deadlines. Employees of thisposition are prohibited from disclosing confidential and proprietaryinformation of donors and prospects, the Foundation, the University as well asstudents and staff of the DuBard School as these are specifically protected byHIPAA.

This confidentiality obligation is effective while employed in thisposition and continues after termination of employment.

  • Employee must bereliable, punctual, honest, cooperative, professional, and respectful.
  • Mustbe organized, able to multi-task, and skilled in managing one’s own time andmaintaining a high degree of personal initiative.

Skilled in timely andeffective communication, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills fordealing with state and local elected officials, students, parents, staff,persons inquiring about services, and other University personnel anddepartments.

  • Skilled in word processing and the creation of reports,spreadsheets, and presentations in one-on-one and large group settings.
  • Excellentdonor and foundation cultivation, development, stewardship, research, and record-keepingskills, careful attention to detail, as well as a strong understanding of stategovernment operations and legislative procedures.

Must have the ability to workbefore and after normal business hours, including weekends. Must be able totravel or complete overnight stays.

  • Seeksopportunities for professional development. Effectively engages and interactswith others to collaborate and provide value-added support that enhancesresults and team effectiveness.
  • Must demonstrate initiative to learn new skillsand maintain a thorough knowledge of techniques, procedures, and equipmentpertaining to the job.
  • Must be able to type 40 WPM.

Preferred Qualifications 2 years ofdevelopment or similar experience at an accredited university or othercomparable fundraising organization, or equivalent professional experience inoutside sales.

Must have a valid MS driver's license.
