This instructional aide teaching support position is located at the prestigious University of Texas Elementary School (UTES) in downtown Austin, Texas. This 194 days (traditional school calendar) position is from August 1st to May 31. The University of Texas Elementary School is a public charter school and follows all state and federal regulations for public school services. UTES is a part of the University of Texas at Austin’s College of Education. A candidate for this position will need to have a level III Educational Aide certification or be willing to complete within the first 90 days of employment. Salary will be spread over 12 months.
Purpose
Assist classroom teacher with instruction and behavior management.
Responsibilities
  • Work with individual student to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist assigned student throughout school day, inside and outside classroom.
  • Provide approved behavior management and intervention. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or student behavior as needed.
  • Tutor student(s) as assigned.
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of the student.
  • Help students take care of physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
  • Work with assigned student and/or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
  • Assist the teacher in collecting and maintaining student data, administrative records and preparing required reports. Assist with assessment as assigned.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy
  • Provide supervision of the classroom in the absence of the teacher. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers when needed.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsExperience working with children or adults who have special needs. Ability to work and interact with students with significant mental and physical disabilities. Knowledge of special skills required to work with students having special needs. Ability to demonstrate patience while working with students. Excellent human relations skills. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work as a team. Good oral and written communication skills. Educational Aide I Certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification within one year of employment. High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
Preferred QualificationsAt least two years of experience working with special needs students. Educational Aide II or III Certification preferred.
Salary Range
$31,040 depending on qualifications (Note: This is a 10 month calendar position. The salary will be spread over 12 months.)

Retirement Plan Eligibility:The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
