The UT System Administration is primarily based in Austin, Texas. Purpose of Position Manages and directs facility operations to maintain functional facilities to ensure the operations of the campus are well-maintained, safe and productive for employees, students, patients and guests
Essential Functions
  • Manage day to day operations of the facility to ensure that all systems are working properly.
  • Manage procurement, contracts, and service orders for UT Laredo facilities related contractors and vendors, including on call services.
  • Manage the budget for facilities management including planning and controlling expenditures for maintenance, utilities and capital improvements.
  • Assist the Assistant Director, Operations tenant with work order reconciliation, etc.
  • Generate Purchase Orders, make purchases with department card, and route invoices for payment.
  • Oversee third-party management of work orders received from technicians, and building occupants through ticketing system, provide priorities and resources to complete the work, ensure quality and completion of work, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage facilities operations team.
  • Work with interdepartmental and interorganizational teams to ensure functional operations, safety and security of the campus.
  • Must maintain compliance with fire and life safety protocols, building codes, and laboratory specifications to protect patients, staff and visitors.
  • Collaborate with campus police and UT System partners to ensure security and access control systems are functioning properly.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans including evacuation procedures and disaster response and share with staff, occupants, contractors and tenants.
  • Conduct regular drills and training sessions for staff to prepare for various emergency scenarios
  • Verify campus compliance with all relevant, health, safety and environmental regulations in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with university and clinic partners as well as their external service providers to uphold high standards of cleanliness and sanitation, waste management and the proper use of hazardous materials in specialized laboratories and patient care rooms ensuring compliance with healthcare standards to prevent the spread of infections
  • Conduct facility inspections, supervise maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment and address safety hazards
  • Coordinate and manage relationships with external contractors and service providers and ensure projects are fully completed
  • Supervise major projects and renovations to ensure they are completed on time and within budget
  • Optimize the use of space, comply with safety regulations and plan for future space requirements
  • Develop a safety orientation program for students and new employees
  • Address and respond to the needs and concerns of employees, students and university partners to ensure a comfortable and functional environment
  • Identify systems and processes to improve the overall operational efficiency of the campus
  • Monitor updates on safety regulations, codes, and standards, and implement necessary changes.
  • Propose recommendations to UT System partners and to the executive director of the University of Texas Educations and Research Center
  • Manage spare parts/supplies inventory and resupply system.
  • Other duties as assigned by executive director

  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and maintenance scheduling
  • Knowledge of healthcare specific standards and infection control protocols

  • Ability to troubleshoot management systems

  • Commitment to addressing the needs and concerns of students, faculty, staff, patients and guests
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and 5 years of experience in facilities management and regulatory compliance or Associates degree and 3 years of experience in management and regulatory compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience in facilities management, regulatory compliance OR related field.
Working Conditions
  • Driving of UT owned vehicle required
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Uses standard office equipment
  • Requires occasional evening or weekend hours
Additional InformationThe retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to a minimum of 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
