DescriptionPosition Title: Quality Control Lab Supervisor
Reporting into Title: Quality Control Manager
Position Purpose/Summary: This role manages a team of chemists and QC associates who apply safety awareness, and critical thinking, document data analysis findings to confirm that raw materials and finished products are quality controlled to the standard of our chemical manufacturing processes, meet client specifications, and are regulatory compliant. As a team, QC Lab participates in cross-functional operations projects as well as collaborating with customers regarding any product issues.
Direct Reports
  • 1-10 reports including Chemists and Quality Control Associates.
Position Responsibilities-Tasks-DeliverablesAll duties as assigned and the following specific activities.
  • Accountable for all quality control department shift activities.
  • Applies sound judgment and makes on-the-spot decisions to resolve employee concerns.
  • Proactively avoids poor quality results through supervision of laboratory-produced sample collection quality level.
  • Analyzeses stability samples of raw materials, in-process materials, environmental samples, and finished goods.
  • Identifies process method modifications when reviewing changes in control forms and after OOS investigations.
  • Oversees and ensures effective employee training on GMP/SOP’s.
  • Supervise investigations and corrective actions relating to product quality problems and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Provides advisory feedback to team members to meet production schedules and resolve instrument problems.
  • Monitors laboratory procedures and policies to ensure compliance with customers’ specifications.
  • Produces reports regarding nonconformance of products or processes, daily production quality, root cause analyses, and quality trends.
  • Communicates all out of specifications (OOS) issues found during testing to management.
  • Maintain all cGMP documentation.
  • Participates in internal audit programs.
  • QC documentation (forms, reports, etc.) is completed timely, accurately, retained, and shared as appropriate to the situation.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment at all times.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Manages assigned workforce to meet day-to-day expectations for quality, quantity, timeliness, and cost.
  • Maintain First Pass Blend Yield of 98% or greater.
  • Zero falsification of lab data to pass OOS materials.
  • Complete and accurate daily QC Lab results report.
  • Contributes to department success by ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements of logbooks and CoAs.
  • Maintains department compliance with cGMP
QualificationsKnowledge-Skills-Abilities Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biology is required or extended specific work experience in a CPG lab setting.
  • Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Total Quality Management, and Total Quality Control certifications desired
Experience
  • 3 years of progressive quality-focused workability with CPG laboratory tasks, safety best practices, and regulated production GMP in contract packaging, blending and filling light industrial manufacturing, or similar business within a consumer manufacturing environment.
  • 3 years in a leadership role demonstrating effective mentorship and coaching skills to generate trust, provide direction, and delegate responsibly, so as to motivate, promote positive team building, and retain associates.
  • Knowledge and application of Processing Quality System policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of ISO reqs, CAPA, and FMEA.
  • Working knowledge of Validation protocols, IQ-OP-PQ.
  • Conscientious to manage multiple tasks, inquiries, and work expectations so as to meet defined quality standards.
  • Strong mathematical abilities and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed initiative to take action, achieves results, think creatively, and work efficiently and competently.
  • Ability to address conflict and resolve it well.
Technology/Software
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Must be proficient with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS): use, implementation, selection, and training.
Communication
  • Bilingual English/Spanish – Preferred
  • Communication skills including but not limited to: listening to others, processing information, and expressing self effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to effectively and efficiently communicate issues and solutions to management and employees.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
