Title: Community Organizer - Mental Health Promoter
Start date: February 1st, 2024
Department(s): To provide support and implementation of The Wall Las Memorias (WLM) Mental Health awareness campaign. .
Office Location: 800 W 6th St, Los Angeles, CA, 90017 and/or 2020 E. 1st Street, Los Angeles, CA 90033.
Hours: Full-Time
Salary: $45,000 - $48,000

Mission Statement: The Wall-Las Memorias Project is a community health and wellness organization dedicated to serving Latino, LGBT, and other underserved populations through advocacy, education, and building the next generation of leadership.
Description: Reporting directly to the Mental Health Clinical Supervisor. We are seeking a community organizer/mental health promoter to conduct outreach, provide education and awareness of mental health, and provide resources and linkages to LGBTQ individuals and families of underserved populations. The community organizer will assist in developing and facilitating in-person and virtual activities, trainings, and workshops. Ongoing training and mentorship will be provided.
Objective Goals and Service/Activities (but not limited to) : The Community Organizer will conduct outreach and linkage services to individuals in communities in need of mental health resources. This person will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to identifying, engaging, and recruiting community members in Service Area (SA) 4 and Supervisorial District (SD) 1 in need of mental health services. The community organizer will also ensure client information and materials distributed are appropriately tracked and documented. This position will require travel within the neighborhoods and communities served.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or equivalent in social welfare, public health, or related field.
  • One (1) year of experience providing health-related prevention services prior to employment
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and public speaking skills
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking, giving presentations, and facilitating group discussions.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations, including LGBTQ communities and underserved populations.
  • Must be knowledgeable of local communities.
  • Must be a team player- work well with a diverse team
  • Good understanding of the wellness and healthcare needs of underserved communities and the ability to work well with diverse populations and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge in engaging and/or organizing community members, businesses, and community leaders in the implementation/adoption of a community and/or population-based effort
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Licensed driver with reliable automobile preferred.
