What You Will DoAs a member of the Experience Delivery – Core Data and Content Distribution Team, you will build and support the APIs, tools, and services that deliver sports data and content to all our products including the ESPN app, ESPN.com, ESPN Studio shows, among many others. We are looking for a passionate, impactful technologist who seeks to bring the best out in themselves and those around them. Someone who can provide a new perspective and innovative insight to our initiatives.
You’ll make a phenomenal addition to our team if you like to do these things:
  • Collaborate with product managers and fellow engineers in the design and implementation of systems delivering high throughput experiences.
  • Help with full-stack development when needed.
  • Contribute to code reviews and cross-team architecture discussions.
  • Analyze and resolve complex engineering problems involving high trafficked web and mobile application services and APIs.
  • Work with the team to iteratively improve development practices and processes.
  • Research and experiment with the latest and greatest technologies to identify and apply them to current and future projects.
You Will...
  • Be involved in the requirement's gathering, analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of systems that support or enhance other applications within our environment.
  • Collaborate & troubleshoot with the rest of the team in the analysis and resolution of hard engineering problems involving high trafficked web application services and API’s.
  • Think of new ways to help make our data platform more scalable, resilient, and reliable and then work across our team to put your ideas into action.
  • Research and learn new technologies.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Some experience or knowledge in developing high volume, cached, fault tolerant, multi-threaded scalable systems.
  • Experience with Java and/or open-source technologies like Spring, Tomcat, MySQL, Kafka, Elasticsearch, etc.
  • Exposure to full lifecycle of application development, including best practices of unit testing, code reviews, documentation, etc.
  • Strong analytical skills as well as proven capabilities for debugging and troubleshooting.
  • Good communication skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to cloud-based technologies such as AWS EC2, ECS, SQS, S3, Lambda, CloudFormation, etc.
Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
