Job description

Customer Interaction:

Convenience store clerks are on the front lines interacting with patrons. They welcome them, answer questions related the products and services offered, and direct them to key locations within the store (a product aisle, the manager’s office, bathroom, etc.), maintaining a helpful and positive attitude in all interactions.

Store and Merchandise Maintenance:

Convenience store clerks arrange merchandise, stock shelves, manage store displays, and ensure all areas are clean and neat. This can include taking out trash, dusting, mopping floors, and other cleaning duties as necessary. They also open and close the store, depending on shifts. Convenience store clerks are expected to keep track of inventory, notifying their manager when something is running low or ordering new inventory as needed.

Operate Cash Register:

Convenience store clerks operate the cash register, processing customer payments, handling cash, debit, and credit transactions, and balancing the cash drawer. Cash register types vary by employer.

Essential Job Functions:
o Receive payments for product sold- whether by cash, check, vouchers, credit cards, or
automatic debits
o Issue receipts to customers for products bought; make necessary refunds, credits, or
change to customers
o Maintaining interpersonal relationships with the public, especially customers
o Ascertain the amount of cash in cash drawer at the start of every shift
o Assist customers by providing information and resolving their complaints
o Greet customers as they enter the store premises and also as they step out.
o Ensure that the checkout area is clean and in order at all times
o Tabulate bills according to prices of products or services of the organization
o Stock shelves in the store and include price tags on each item on the shelve
o Assist customers/clients in moving out their items purchased at completion of transactions
o Supervise other staff and provide on-the-job training when asked to
o Compute every transaction
o Calculate payments in total received during a specific period of time and compare with total
product sales

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: To successfully perform the essential functions of the position, the
employee must be able to read and write English. Mobility is required. Attention to detail is key.

Scope of Position: This position reports to the Manager and has no direct supervisory responsibilities. This position receives daily assignments from the Manager.

Major Accountabilities:
1) Timeliness and quality of service provided.
2) Accurate and timely data input in computer.
3) Prompt and courteous customer service.
4) Clean and safe work area.
5) Safe work habits.
6) Clean and proper uniform usage, good hygiene.
7) Effective employee relations.

Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong sales abilities
- Proficiency in English language
- Basic math skills
- Experience with cash registers
- Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment
- Multilingual or bilingual skills a plus
- Familiarity with technology sales and product demos
- Organizational skills and time management abilities

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $13.00 - $14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
