SCOPE:

The Woodlands Methodist School (TWMS), an outreach of The Woodlands Methodist Church (TWMC), Science Teacher is responsible for providing the best possible learning environment for children assigned to the class by supporting the Guiding Principles of the school.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The 6th grade Science Teacher reports to the Director of Middle School and is also accountable to the Head of School and TWMC School Board.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education

· Must have a certification in science for grades 5 – 8.

· Proficient in technology and possess the ability to integrate technology into the classroom environment.

· Good communication skills.

· Committed Christian, comfortable sharing their faith with students and families.

· Must meet The Woodlands Methodist Church and The Woodlands Methodist School requirements, which include fingerprinting and an extensive background check.

JOB DUTIES:

Shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Create and maintain a classroom setting that meets TWMS requirements and best practices for optimum learning.

Write weekly lesson plans reflecting individual student needs and hands on learning activities while maintaining the developmental philosophy of the program. Lesson plans should include NextGen Science Standards (NGSS).

· Integrate technology to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

· Establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.

· Track and evaluate student academic progress.

· Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

· Manage student behavior in and out of the classroom.

· Keep individual records for each child as specified.

· Attend staff and team meetings.

· Meet school requirements for in-service training and professional growth in a timely manner.

· Assist with carline and other school-wide duties as assigned.

· Perform any other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

CLASSIFICATION:

This position is an exempt, part-time position that is not eligible for benefits.
