Job DescriptionThe Wellness Director supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position will provide leadership and guidance over the wellness programs to provide exemplary member experience. The Wellness Director will be a direct link to members in establishing a consistently healthy lifestyle, utilizing all fitness and wellness offerings including appointments, personal training, Beastmode, group exercise, and specialty programs.Not only will you be part of amazing mission driven work, we offer the following benefits:

Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree and/or equivalent experience in exercise science or fitness/exercise related field
  • Current ACSM, NSCA, NETA, or ACE certification.
  • Exercise is Medicine level 2 certification preferred; Prefer Exercise is Medicine level 2 at time of hire or required to obtain within 90 days of hire or first available date.
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Must have Group Training certification/experience, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire or first available date.
  • CPR / First Aid certification (within first 30 days)
  • Excellent knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, & physiology
  • Marketing and sales ability
  • Computer skills involving Microsoft Office and email.
  • Desire for health, wellness, and fitness promotion
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Personal passion for health and fitness
Essential FunctionsSupervision
  • Provide daily guidance, supervision, and leadership of part-time wellness staff, including personal trainers, wellness associates, coaches, and group exercise instructors.
Wellness Programming
  • Assist in Exercise is Medicine Greenville®
  • Lead and assist in developing the Personal Training department, including recruitment, retention, and growth of trainers, as well as growing client base to reach and exceed goals. Assist with matching clients and personal trainers.
  • Lead and assist in developing the Group Exercise programming, including recruitment, retention, and coaching of instructors, and scheduling class offerings while evaluating attendance and impact.
  • Develop and lead small group sessions or programs, such as Youth Sports Performance or Sports Conditioning.
  • Lead or Assist in Beast Mode programming, planning, scheduling, and special events.
  • Lead seminars/ workshops as needed to help promote personal training programs and general healthy lifestyle information.
  • Ensure program quality through evaluation of current programs and recommendations for future programs.
  • Conduct fitness evaluations, prescribe exercise prescriptions, and provide fitness consults.
  • Schedule appointments and provide exceptional member service before, during, and after appointments.
  • Conduct programs at the highest level including exceptional instruction and demonstration.
  • Stay alert to all problems that may occur during assessments and/or members exercising including correcting any improper training techniques.
  • Recommend equipment needs and issues to the Operations Director.
  • Be a role model of a healthy lifestyle.
  • Maintain a positive, professional attitude while providing superior member service.
Engagement/Outreach
  • Promote YMCA programs via member communication, mailings, specials, etc.
  • Represent the YMCA at community functions, health fairs, and special events.
  • Assist with branch fundraising activities and special events.
Other Expectations
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
  • Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers.
  • Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.
  • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their consumers from abuse.
  • Report essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.
