PRIMARY DUTY: The Dean serves as the College's chief academic and administrative officer. The Dean is charged with ensuring the College's academic programs, research, faculty development, and student outcomes are of the highest quality and continue to grow. The Dean must bring administrative acumen and nimbleness in strategically allocating resources to advance the College's mission. The Dean also serves as chief external representative to the broader community, with donors and alumni, and with other University leaders. The Dean will lead a vision that leverages its diverse strengths; manages the College organizationally and financially; supports faculty and staff; is actively engaged in building community relationships and advocating for the College within the University; continues and enhances its fundraising success; and effectively builds a strong collaborative group of faculty and staff. The Dean leads and collaborates on student enrollment, retention, graduation, assessment, and accreditations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • The Dean will be expected to bring vision, creativity, and a vibrant leadership style to the College and contribute to the development and execution of Northwest's strategic plan.
  • Apply innovation and focus the College's academic disciplines, curriculum, and student programming on the university's academic vision
  • Drive Northwest's commitment to student success by supporting and nurturing faculty excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Lead program review and improvement within the college of Arts and Sciences through a commitment to using authentic, problem-solving methodologies, including technology, to enhance learning and program delivery within Northwest's profession-based learning model.
  • Understand and support the needs of a diverse collection of departments and faculty, including not only the traditional areas, but also interdisciplinary programming shared with the professional schools.
  • Manage the fiscal affairs of the College.
  • Oversee the Honors program.
  • Collaborate with the Faculty Senate in guiding the Northwest Core general education program in serving as the curricular foundation at Northwest Missouri State University for developing broadly educated professionals and citizens
  • Collaborate with University Advancement to secure a strong resource base through fundraising and strategic relationships.
  • Interact with community colleges and other post-secondary institutions to develop enhanced educational opportunities for students.
  • Ensure that departments in the college work with faculty, students, professional advisory boards, and other stakeholders in achieving excellence.
  • Collaborate with the chairs in oversight area to administer the academic program review process.
  • Work with chairs in oversight area to ensure undergraduate student learning outcomes (SLO's) are in place for all programs at all levels and are used to assess program effectiveness and to foster continuous improvement of academic programs.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs leadership in all matters of academic recruitment, performance, interdepartmental cooperation (including interdisciplinary activities and programs), and meeting the strategic goals and objections of the institution.
  • Work with the provost on development of new/proposed academic policies as assigned by the provost as well as review of current policies considering flexibility and growth.
  • Provide planning and operations assistance to executive management through active participation and leadership on task forces, committees and councils.
  • Provide effective management of resources including fiscal responsibility for assigned budgets and overall supervisory authority for the budget process in the division.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the provost.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: terminal degree in a higher education related field

Experience: minimum three to five years extensive experience in undergraduate programming and supervision of academic operations.
