Job DescriptionJob Title: Teacher, Physical & Health Education FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Principal Terms of Employment: 10 Months Position description: The Physical Education Department at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy strives to prepare their students to be strong physically, mentally, and socially. These three goals are approached through a variety of physical activities, health discussions, and team building activities. We want our students to understand that being strong physically can look different for everyone. We aim to provide them with a variety of activities that will hopefully result in use for a lifetime. We cover the basis of mental strength by covering various health lessons and by reminding students that only their best is important when it comes to being healthy and comparison to others is not. The social aspect of our program we feel is one of most importance. We hope to give students experience in being both a leader and a follower. Mind and Body: Balanced Living This course is designed to guide students through intentional practice of finding balance in mind, body, and their relationships throughout communities in which they participate. Throughout this nine-week course, students will engage in lessons centered on these pieces of the balanced-living puzzle: physical health (self-care and exercise), mental and emotional health (relaxation techniques and coping mechanisms), and social well-being (setting boundaries for healthy relationships). Our classes will take place indoors as well as outdoors. We will delve into activities such as mindful stretching, journaling, trail-walking, reading, and more. We will work together to answer questions like: What is a balanced and virtuous life? Why is it important? What does such a life look and feel like day-to-day? How does the way I live my life not only affect me, but others? Through awareness of, and reverence for, the mind-body connection, we are empowered to nurture an existence that honors oneself and community. Primary Responsibilities:
