Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons L.L.P. is Hiring a Director of Human Resources Near Dallas, TX

Thompson Coe, an insurance defense law firm, is seeking a full-time Director of Human Resources who will lead and direct the development, implementation and management of firm-wide policies and programs in the areas of human resources administration, employee relations, recruiting, benefits, and payroll and ensure that overall business goals and objectives are achieved. He or she will serve as a resource to the firm’s Managing Partner and Chief Operating Officer and as a key member of the firm’s administrative management team.

The Director of Human Resources will report to the Chief Operating Officer and manage a team of three, including a Benefits Administrator/HR Manager, Human Resources Coordinator and Payroll Specialist.

Job Duties:

  • Develop, plan, and implement firm-wide human resources strategies, policies, procedures and programs; maintain clear, proactive and effective lines of communication, keeping firm leadership, attorneys and all employees well-informed regarding new programs and developments, critical issues, and policy changes.
  • Provide guidance to the staff cost management and incentive compensation functions, evaluate compensation and benefits programs to ensure competitiveness and cost effectiveness, and develop and implement new programs to address the firm's needs.
  • Direct staff recruiting and placement practices and spearhead initiatives to enhance retention.
  • Work with the Firm Hiring Partner and provide support as needed.
  • Participate in building and fostering a culture that is team-oriented and committed to professional excellence; manage, mentor and develop staff and ensure all functional resources are in alignment with the firm’s vision.
  • Serve as the champion on the training and development of and investment in human capital at every level of the firm.
  • Provide input and direction with regard to new policy questions and issues not clearly addressed by existing policies.
  • Establish and utilize human resources reporting tools, metrics and analytics; recommend organizational and operational improvements based on data analysis.
  • Provide consultation, coaching, and employee relations assistance in a fair and consistent manner; offer advice and flexible support to leaders in addressing employee issues.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulation through affirmative action, ERISA, ADA, OSHA, workers and unemployment compensation, injury and illness prevention programs, and EEOC programs.
  • Monitor current trends and innovations in strategic human resources practices, develop corresponding strategies and responses, and implement new methodologies, programs, and policies as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the firm’s employment counsel in the resolution of any claims of harassment or discrimination and on the establishment and modification of related policies.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 to 15 years of broad-based human resources management experience with highly sophisticated professional services firms; preferably in a current Director or Assistant Director role;
  • An undergraduate degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field is required;
  • Extensive experience directing all aspects of human resources, including employee relations, compensation and benefits, payroll, organizational development and recruiting and performance management;
  • Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact credibly and diplomatically with all levels in an organization;
  • An understanding of the infrastructure of cost control related to all aspects of human resources operations;
  • Proven experience driving innovation and continuous improvement in human resources functions;
  • An ability and willingness to forge strong working relationships with the firm's management, attorneys and staff;
  • Well-developed management and employee relations skills;
  • Strong leadership skills coupled with keen business acumen and a commitment to service;
  • An ability to quickly establish credibility and serve as an advocate of best practices, fair treatment, and confidentiality;
  • The ability to formulate creative solutions to complex problems;
  • A high energy level coupled with the ability to work in a team-oriented environment;
  • Superior presentation and writing skills;
  • Demonstrated achievements in enhancing employee productivity and work ethic;
  • The ability to travel as needed to the firm’s offices.
