Tico Coffee Roasters is Hiring a Barista Near Campbell, CA

Tico Coffee Roasters is a women-owned boutique coffee roasting and tea company in Campbell, CA. We directly import specialty coffees and the finest teas from producing countries worldwide. Our coffees are hand-roasted in small batches and teas are carefully curated guaranteeing product freshness and consistency. We are looking for a motivated barista to join our team. This will be the initial point of contact between Tico Coffee Roasters and our retail clients as an ambassador for Tico Coffee Roasters. You are also responsible for developing a retention strategy that will yield positive long-term returning customers. The ideal barista is someone who is passionate about coffee, and food and creating incredible guest experiences grounded in respect, empathy, and recognition.

This job offer also requires helping out in the roastery with packing and shipping duties, and collaboration on preparing supplies for catering and events is also needed. 

Job Duties

  • Great customer service with a friendly smile

  • Educate customers on all our products
  • Maintain high-quality and consistent product standards
  • Look for the highest customer satisfaction
  • Accurately process transactions in the POS System
  • Cup and taste coffee regularly to maintain familiarity with product and quality standards
  • Stay informed with new products and their attributes
  • Communicate with other team members, management, and production to resolve challenges and elevate service
  • Create a positive work environment 
  • Participate in training events which include cuppings, tastings, socials, and workshops
  • Deliver impeccable hospitality to our guests and your fellow teammates
  • Participate in teamwork to ‘dial in’ and serve a selection of delicious coffees in a variety of different brewing methods including but not limited to espresso, pour-over, and cold brew
  • Drink your and others’ coffee and espresso drinks regularly to ensure quality, uphold our standards, and keep developing your coffee palate
  • Support your team in keeping the cafe running smoothly and beautifully - these tasks include washing dishes, clearing dishes, sweeping, dusting, mopping, cleaning and organizing the condiment station, taking out the trash, cleaning the bathroom, and removing wastewater from the coffee cart
  • Collaborate in the roastery with packaging coffees and shipping orders when needed
  • Participate in catering events when needed in the evening or on weekends

Physical Demands 

  • Stand and walk—must be able to stand for shifts and move around in the coffee cart and warehouse
  • Perform repetitive motion with the hands, wrists, and forearms to operate espresso machinery
  • Taste/Smell – the ability to detect and perceive the smell of coffee
  • Talk/hear – frequently communicates with customers
  • Carry weight, lift – lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Do periodic clean up during and at the end of your shift

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old or older
  • Must be positive, inspiring, and respectful.
  • 1 year of barista experience
  • Passionate about coffee, people, and creating hospitality and culinary experiences
  • Ability to manage your own time effectively
  • Great verbal and written communication skills and a desire to share accurately the message and mission of Tico Coffee Roasters with potential customers, current ones, and the general public at all times.
  • Willingness to work on a flexible schedule and on weekends
  • Existing Food Handler's Certification or new certification within 30 days post-hire

There is a 90 days trial period in which the applicant must demonstrate:

  • Satisfactory internal orientation completion
  • Understanding of the products and equipment offered to clients
  • Effectively complete the assigned tasks in a timely manner
