Senior Outpatient Technician Position Summary
The Senior Outpatient Technician interacts with patients and other health-care providers to collect, transport and/or process blood and other body fluids from a full spectrum of the patient population. He/she performs EKG procedures in conjunction with the Department of Cardiology, as well as screening spirometry and other special procedures in conjunction with the Department of Respiratory Care. He/she serves as resource person for the section and assists the Outpatient Phlebotomy Coordinator in the management and supervision of the Laboratory Outpatient Phlebotomy and Courtier department. He/she participates in the educational and professional development of laboratory personnel, new employees and students, and participates in the performance of routine administrative and non-routine technical functions.
Lead responsibilities include coordination of daily nursing home & assisted living collections, working closely with Hanna Outpatient Supervisor.
Tech duties include venipuncture on patients of all age groups, heel sticks, other types of specimen collections (Urine, MRSA, Covid, Flu, etc), specimen handling/processing/shipping, patient registration (including insurance eligibility check), specimen transport, and other diagnostic testing (breath test, EKG, etc)
Senior Outpatient Technician Position Requirements
Education

• Successful completion of an approved training program consisting of both lectures and practical application in phlebotomy or comparable education or experience.
• Trained to perform pulmonary and EKG functions.

Experience

• Three years as an Outpatient Technician is preferred.

Senior Outpatient Technician Schedule

• The Laboratory is staffed seven days a week, twenty-four hours per day.
• Personnel may be assigned to work mostly one shift or may have a rotational schedule consisting of duty on day and evening shifts. Both options may include weekends (one or two weekends on duty per month).
• Schedule to include all facility collections and Maryland draw sites. Alternate shifts and/or locations may be requested to meet operational needs.
• Rotational coverage of holidays.
• Expected to work overtime and/or additional weekends in times of staffing shortages, emergencies and unexpected increases in workload.

Senior Outpatient Technician Benefits

• At TidalHealth, team members working at least 36 hours per pay period based on 12-hour shift schedules or at least 37.5 hours for non 12-hour shift schedules and part-time team members working at least 30 hours or more on weekends only are eligible for benefits.
