Position Overview

The North Area Manager oversees the performance and management of south aggregate operations and ensures that Tilcon New York Inc. is in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Roles and Responsibilities

(Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Business Partner
    • Drive operational performance and improvements to meet or exceed company and regional goals.
    • Challenge assumptions and processes in order to improve performance
    • Develop departmental standards in line with company best practices and operational excellence.
    • Communicate and collaborate to drive business synergies
    • Provide analyses of monthly reporting data, identifying areas of strength and/or opportunity.
    • Prepare budgets for approval and effectively manage costs within the Operations department.
    • Develop ongoing action plans outlining steps for improvement based on operational and statistical analyses.
    • Monitor daily performance of quality, cycle time, and customer/producer satisfaction against pre-established metrics.
    • Review production related reports to ensure that targets are met.
    • Review operations with direct reports, establish goals and monitor progress.
    • Prepare Capex design submittals; strategic planning; develop detailed mine plans.
    • Mitigate business risk throughout all aspects of the company’s activities.
  • Leader
    • Continuously demonstrate and communicate the values, culture, vision and aspirations embodied within the Four Pillars
    • Build teams that support the organization and collaborating with peers to unleash the full potential of Tilcon New York Inc.
    • Promote a safe working culture for all employees; work with safety and field personnel to minimize risk and increase safety for employees at all times.
    • Provide leadership and direction to entire Operations team from Plant Managers to Field workers to drive maximum profitability and to ensure materials and equipment are being utilized efficiently.
    • Reinforce policies and procedures that support the company’s goals, the operations needs and achievement of safety results.
  • Developer of Talent
    • Support the recruitment, development and diversity of current and future talent.
    • Promoting ongoing coaching and feedback. Enhance and broaden skills.
    • Develop and maintain an environment that encourages excellence, accountability, communication, as well as personal development and growth, for all Operations employees

Marginal Duties and Functions

  • Work on ad hoc projects as directed.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with industry associations and organizations to stay current on political and technology changes that could impact our business.
  • Stay apprised of innovations and technology that can improve efficiencies and/or reduce costs.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

Required

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in an operations leadership role with people management and team building experience
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the aggregate or asphalt industry
  • Extensive knowledge of planning, team development, inventory turnover and ROI.
  • High level of proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering strongly preferred.
  • General management skills such as planning, accounting/finance, administration and economics a plus
  • Working knowledge of various database programs including Viewpoint, PEAK2, DF3 and e-Maint.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills and abilities.

Work Requirements

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and company procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when required.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations pertaining to, but not limited to, safety, the environment and transportation.
  • When in the field, required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to: Safety Glasses, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, Dust masks & Hearing Protection

This job will require both office work and field work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment in the office is usually quiet.
