Tillamook is Hiring a Decatur Plant Controller Near Decatur, IL

What you will do:

The Plant Controller – Decatur Site, will report to Senior Operations Finance Controller and work collaboratively with Plant Controllers of other sites, and act as key business partner to Decatur site leadership to support performance optimization. The Plant Controller will also seek process and reporting consistency, under the guidance of Senior Operations Finance Controller. The Plant Controller – Decatur Site will partner with Operations Finance team to provide key periodic performance analysis and commentary, driving comprehensive understanding of past performance and implications to be addressed in forward looking financial review discussions. Decatur will be a newly opened site in 2024, and as such, will require work to establish, educate, and build governance toward process and methodology in accordance with GAAP and consistency with direction from the Senior Operations Finance Controller.

The Plant Controller – Decatur Site, will be expected to provide financial support and business partnership to the Decatur manufacturing facility to enhance performance and profitability, through enhanced and timely visibility of key performance metrics and aid in informed and data driven decision making. This role will also be responsible for the protection of all company assets through the enforcement of controls, while applying generally accepted accounting principles to plant transactions to properly reflect the financial performance of a plant. This role will also maintain and optimize financial processes and systems to provide accurate information in a timely manner and also help develop strong internal controls and appropriate measures to ensure the integrity of reporting and focus on the continuous improvement of all financial work processes.

Key areas of responsibility for this role includes:

  • Produce daily, weekly, monthly, and annual performance statements creating visibility to key drivers such as production mix, yield, manufacturing variances, inventory losses, labor statistics, and overhead spend.
  • Budget and forecast spend analysis, including Annual Production Plant (APP) goal tracking and communication, as well as periodic reviews and timely status updates, allowing key pivots for meeting target metrics.
  • Provide strategic partnerships with manufacturing staff to establish on-going governance, optimal process efficiencies, and scenario based financial options for decision making.
  • Direct business partnership with plant director and leadership and act as key liaison to finance analysis teams.
  • Enable timely, accurate, and greater accessibility to data driving key decisions that optimize plant performance and overall financial profitability.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and warehouse leadership to ensure all financial transactions and reporting are complete, accurate and timely.
  • Support and/or lead coordination of all internal and external financial and operational audits and address audit findings with corporate finance, plant directors, and manufacturing VP.

Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Selecting top talent and onboarding/training new employees; following, and ensuring that all employees follow, all personnel rules, policies and/or collective bargaining agreements; holding employees accountable for performing their daily duties and demonstrating appropriate workplace behaviors; providing continuous feedback, coaching, and timely effective discipline when necessary; evaluating, monitoring and providing regular feedback on employees’ performance; tracking employees’ attendance and verifying accuracy of daily timekeeping records; holding effective, regular, team meetings; demonstrating financial responsibility by protecting the employers’ financial interests; and serving as role model by demonstrating professionalism, honesty, integrity, ethical behavior and living our company values

Here’s a day in the life:

  • Provide business partnership insights to the Decatur plant leadership team and to the Senior Director of Operations, driving optimal performance and profitability.
  • Administer and reconcile daily dairy receipts into plant. Analyze and report comprehensive manufacturing dairy analysis to budget, forecasts, and against market rates. This would include by-product production performance in cream and other solids including waste and overage.
  • Maintain a strong system of internal controls to ensure the safeguarding of assets, compliance with GAAP and regulatory agency requirements, and the integrity and objectivity of financial and operational reporting.
  • Work with Senior Milk Strategy Manger assessing best case scenario milk plans and potential financial savings in hauling, farm sourcing mix, spot milk, UF milk, and overall usage assessments.
  • Assist in the timely communication of results to supported teams and ensure that team members understand how their actions affect results.
  • Support and lead the coordination of all internal and external financial and operational audits and address any audit findings with corporate finance, plant Directors and manufacturing VP and relevant corporate leadership.
  • Develop an understanding of the plant cost structures and establish relevant ongoing analysis targeting profitability in make vs. buy scenarios. Comparisons to operating plant performance versus Co-manufacturers producing Tillamook products.
  • Present findings on project opportunities and expected economic results to senior management.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
  • Demonstrate exceptional computer skills and proficiency of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint. Access experience is a plus.
  • Act as a supportive team player and be able to interact with staff at all levels of the company.
  • Work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently and meet goals with little supervision.
  • Perform as an example toward company value.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is required. Licenses and/or Certifications: CPA or CMA is desired.
  • Minimum of 5 - 8 years of related experience in manufacturing environment with accounting, monthly finance close, and external audits experience.
  • Familiarity with cost accounting is highly required.
  • Experience working with a cooperative is desirable.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing process and capabilities.
  • Command of general and operational accounting including corporate, legal & regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public.
  • Proven track record of strong commercial and operational sense, strategic thinking, flexible, and open minded.
  • Interacts with customer service oriented approach.
  • Catalyst for driving process improvements in operational and financial reporting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must be computer literate with intermediate (advance preferred) knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint. ERP system knowledge is required; MS Navision (NAV) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with word-processing, graphics, flowcharts or other software is desirable.
  • Must be a team player and be able to interact with staff at all levels of the company.
  • Must be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently with little supervision.
