Job Summary:

The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing packaging solutions for automotive parts and components. This role involves ensuring that packaging is efficient, cost-effective, and protective of products during transportation and storage. The Packaging Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize packaging processes and materials to meet the industry's rigorous standards and customer requirements.

What you will be doing:

Packaging Design and Development:

  • Design and develop packaging solutions for automotive parts and components, ensuring product protection and compliance with industry standards.
  • Create prototypes and conduct testing to validate the effectiveness of packaging designs.
  • Use CAD software to create detailed packaging drawings and specifications.

Material Selection and Optimization:

  • Identify and select appropriate packaging materials to balance cost, performance, and sustainability.
  • Work with suppliers to source and evaluate new packaging materials and technologies.
  • Continuously improve packaging materials to enhance performance and reduce costs.

Process Improvement:

  • Analyze and optimize packaging processes to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies to streamline packaging operations.
  • Monitor packaging performance and make adjustments as needed to improve outcomes.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with design, production, quality, and logistics teams to ensure packaging solutions meet all functional and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate packaging specifications and requirements to suppliers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings and projects to address packaging challenges and opportunities.

Quality Assurance:

  • Develop and maintain packaging standards, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on packaging-related issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.

Sustainability and Compliance:

  • Implement environmentally friendly packaging solutions to reduce the company's carbon footprint.
  • Ensure packaging solutions comply with all relevant environmental regulations and industry standards.
  • Develop and manage recycling and disposal programs for packaging materials.

Cost Management:

  • Manage packaging budgets and track expenses to ensure cost-effective packaging solutions.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through material optimization and process improvements.
  • Prepare and present cost-benefit analyses for proposed packaging changes.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of packaging designs, specifications, and changes.
  • Prepare and present reports on packaging performance, cost savings, and improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for packaging processes.

What you will need to be successful:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in packaging engineering, preferably within the automotive industry.
  • Proven experience with packaging design, materials, and processes.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant design tools.
  • Excellent knowledge of packaging materials and their applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., MS Office, statistical analysis software).
