Job Summary:

The Paint Process Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing the painting processes used in automotive manufacturing. This role involves ensuring high-quality finishes on all automotive products, improving efficiency, and maintaining compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. The Paint Process Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in paint application techniques, materials, and equipment.

What you will be doing:

Process Development and Optimization:

  • Develop and refine painting processes to ensure high-quality finishes and compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.
  • Optimize paint application techniques to enhance productivity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct trials and experiments to evaluate new materials, technologies, and methods.

Quality Control:

  • Monitor and analyze paint process performance to ensure consistent quality.
  • Implement corrective actions and process improvements based on quality data and root cause analysis.
  • Develop and maintain process control plans and documentation.

Equipment and Technology:

  • Select, install, and maintain paint application equipment, including spray guns, robots, and booths.
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers and vendors to ensure the best technologies are utilized.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues to minimize downtime.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:

  • Ensure all paint processes comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to protect workers and the environment.
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling processes related to paint materials.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance paint process performance and reduce costs.
  • Use lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies to identify and eliminate process inefficiencies.
  • Provide training and support to production staff on new processes and best practices.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with design, production, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless integration of paint processes.
  • Communicate process changes, updates, and improvements to relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings and projects.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of paint processes, experiments, and changes.
  • Prepare and present reports on process performance, improvements, and outcomes.
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.

What you will need to be successful:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in paint process engineering within the automotive industry.
  • Proven experience with paint application technologies, equipment, and materials.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies is preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of paint chemistry and application processes.
  • Proficient in using process control and quality management tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., CAD, MS Office, statistical analysis software).

Working Conditions:

  • The role may require standing for extended periods and working in paint booths or other manufacturing environments.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Occasional travel may be required to visit suppliers, customers, or other manufacturing sites.
