Position Description:

The Behavioral Intervention Teacher will provide primary intervention to students who are identified as exhibiting behavioral difficulties which impede their social development and academic success. The Behavior Intervention Teacher provides consultation, coaching, one-to-one and group presentations, and classroom support, instructional and behavioral strategies for regular education teachers, special education teachers and site personnel.

Security Statement:

The behavior Interventionist must maintain security of electronic and print records with regard to confidentiality of student information and passwords that are issued for access to databases.

Scope of Responsibility:

  • Provides interventions and trains staff members in behavioral interventions.
  • Trains staff and monitors data and data collection and implementation of Behavior Support Plans (BSP) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Facilitates team meetings that: design Behavior Intervention Plans: address classroom organization, effective instruction, social emotional learning; School-wide Positive Behavioral Support (PBIS) and factors that affect effectiveness.
  • Continually supervises students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive and provides “push in” services to promote healthy relationships and increase instructional time.
  • Conducts conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions.
  • Serves as a consultant to administrators, teachers and parents.
  • Reviews behavior referrals and JCampus data reports.
  • Organizes and schedules time commitments to meet demands of the job.
  • Maintains all records specified by district and school administration.
  • Participates in professional development through workshops, literature, seminars and meetings.
  • Cooperates, communicates and works with the district and school based administration and faculty.
  • Communicates with parents regarding behavior needs of students.
  • Serves on the school’s Crisis, PBIS and ABIT Teams.
  • Performs all duties as assigned by the principal.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • The Behavior Intervention Teacher must be able to communicate in Standard English, both orally and written and/or digitally. 
  • Must have the ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication systems and be able to communicate successfully and tactfully with students, parents and school personnel, while following JPPSS policies.
  • Must be willing to work at multiple sites.
  • Must be willing to attend trainings for skills and programs needed for this position (Crisis Prevention Intervention, Trauma Informed Practices, etc…) as assigned by principal and Executive Director of Special Programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate.
  • Three (3) years successful experience teaching “at risk” and/or “behaviorally challenged” students.
  • Demonstrates exceptional skill in the roles of a teacher leader, collaborator, action researcher, reflective practitioner, and learner advocate.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of function-based intervention planning for developing behavior change strategies that focus on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior.
  • Expert knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function-based interventions, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Exceptional knowledge in the use of assessment and assessment data to inform instruction and prescribe work plans for individual students.
  • Expert knowledge in research based instructional strategies and ability to implement them effectively.
  • Demonstrate ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving instruction.
