To Be Assigned is Hiring a School Base Health Center Nurse Practitioner Near Louisiana, LA

Position Description:

Reporting to the Executive Director of Health and Social Services in the Student Support Unit, the SBHC Nurse is responsible for providing health services to students enrolled in the School Based Health Center during the school day as outlined by the Jefferson Parish Public School System and the Office of Public Health (OPH.)

Scope of Responsibility:

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care of SBHC enrolled students with minor illnesses and injuries.
  • Refers to the SBHC medical director/nurse practitioner as necessary for further medical/health evaluation.
  • Assists in checking immunization records of SBHC enrolled students.
  • Provides immunizations to SBHC enrolled students as necessary.
  • Collaborates with the school nurse in preparing required Office of Public Health, OPH, immunization reports.
  • Develops and maintains accurate and comprehensive health records by using the electronic medical record on SBHC enrolled students.
  • Conducts screenings (vision, hearing, height, weight, and scoliosis) and other screenings recommended by the medical director/nurse practitioner on SBHC enrolled students.
  • Follows-up on all SBHC enrolled students referred to other/outside health care providers.
  • Conducts conferences with SBHC enrolled students and/or parents as necessary.
  • Collaborates and cooperates with the SBHC medical director/nurse practitioner, the school nurse and other school health care providers to serve as a health resource to school staff and parents.
  • Monitors, supervises and administers medication to SBHC enrolled students in accordance with JPPSS policy. ? Adheres to SBHC confidentiality policy and mandated federal guidelines.
  • Manages the SBHC medical equipment and supplies.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians as necessary concerning the health status of SBHC enrolled students.
  • Assists the SBHC medical director/nurse practitioner and other SBHC providers as necessary to ensure optimal health care to the SBHC enrolled students and to maintain the daily operation of the School Based Health Center.
  • Performs or collects necessary lab tests upon SBHC enrolled students as ordered by the doctor/nurse practitioner.
  • Maintains and upgrades nursing skills through continuing education as required by State Board of Nursing.
  • Attends school staff/faculty meetings as a SBHC representative.
  • Provides or assists doctor/nurse practitioner in providing Kidmed and sports physicals.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Health Services.

Skills and Qualifications:

We seek detail-oriented, independent self-starters who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to raising student achievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging situations. Successful candidates will also demonstrate: 

  • Holds and maintains current Registered Nurse licensure with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
  • Holds and maintains current certification in CPR.
  • Maintains ancillary certification with the Louisiana Department of Education.
  • Acquires a minimum of 10 contact hours of continuing education in subjects related to school nursing. ? 3 years experience as a Louisiana licensed registered nurse.
  • Strong communication skills in multiple settings and the ability to be an engaging change agent and culturecreator that can inspire and motivate.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations.
  • Collaborative management style, with a proven track record of working with diverse individuals at all levels to drive decision-making and results.
  • High degree of professionalism, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience in pediatrics or community nursing is recommended ? Previous school nursing experience.

Physical Involvement:

  • Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 10 pounds is required.
