Job Summary
The lending specialist is responsible for assisting Credit Union members with their loan needs, providing extraordinary service in all interactions. This position will engage in meaningful conversations related to financial details to identify member needs and provide solid financial recommendations. ** This position is hybrid/St. Louis **
Job Responsibilities  
The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibilities required of this position and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills. Team members may be directed to perform job-related tasks others than those specifically stated in this description. 
  • Actively assists members through phone and online channels to provide information and knowledge on all lending products and services.
  • Offers financial advice and guidance on all Credit Union products and services.
  • Processes applications, analyzes eligibility of loans, assesses risk, properly documents loans, receives approval, closes, distributes, and delivers denials on loans that originate through other channels.
  • Analyzes members’ financial standing and credit reports; calculates debt to income ratios to identify loan eligibility.
  • Identifies debt held by other institutions and cross sell loan products.
  • Maintains necessary reports and work queues.
  • Manages calls and assists Contact Center in overflow requests and loan applications. 
  • Manages follow up with internal departments including title and payoff information. 
  • Handles loan follow up and regulatory compliance. 
  • Continually focuses on net promoter score (NPS) goals and service standards.
  • Promotes a positive relationship between the internal and external members and the Credit Union. 
Required Qualifications  
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.  
  • High school diploma
  • Minimum of two years related professional experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s) 
A representation of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.  
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
  • Strong understanding of system utilization, lending, and Credit Union products to find lending options for all member needs. 
  • Understanding of principles involved in various types of loans, including those granted, insured, or guaranteed by institutions. 
  • Familiarity with the financial structures and practices of businesses and organizations. 
  • Ability to analyze financial data and assess credit risk. 
  • Proficiency in guiding members through the loan application process and addressing their queries. 
  • Skills in marketing loan products and services, and actively soliciting new business. 
  • Competence in making informed decisions regarding loan approvals and risk assessments. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to present information clearly and effectively. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with members and other stakeholders.

Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of this job’s functions. 
  • Hybrid remote and in-office setting; general office environment when in-office

  • Ability to work at a computer in a stationary manner up to 8 hours daily. 
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment efficiently. 
  • Good vision is necessary for reading documents, computer screens, and financial data. 
  • Effective hearing is important for phone conversations and in-person meetings with members.
