Summary:The role of Shift Supervisor overviews the daily activities and how employees perform during their shift. Shift Supervisors are responsible for maximizing the efficiencies of the the carbon black, cogeneration, and sufuric acid (Addis & Borger only) production process through managing people, schedules, supplies and communication coordination with relevant internal departments. This role ensures an organized, safe and productive workspace as well as addresses the needs and issues of front line production workers.Essential Functions:Manages and directs a team of production operators to ensure day to day tasks and operations are successful, efficient and are completed based off standard protocols from a safety, environmental and meets Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) consistently. This includes varying levels of participation in the following non-inclusive task list:Daily, monthly, annual performance review and monitoringProgressive discipline process/documentation development and maintenanceSkill and career developmentSchedule development including daily, weekly and monthly task assignments in addition to time card review and approvalDepartment or plant specific job training delivery or trackingMaintain workflow by providing regular and direct guidance to each assigned shift by:Monitoring all steps of the carbon black, cogeneration and sulfuric acid production processes and establishing production and schedule expectations while pivoting quickly and appropriately to address ad hoc safety, environmental or other external factorsEvaluating, and resetting processing variables based on lab results to ensure particular yield resultsObserving control points and equipmentIdentifying and implementing cost reductionsAssisting in the development of reporting procedures and processesFacilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control pointsInitializing the production/schedule/specification change process within the production teamEnsuring staff performance and adherence to established procedures, protocols and regulationsRecognizing and identifying causes of quality and production rate drifts and immediately communicating potential avenues for rectificationValidating all rerun materials feed from designated tanksCertifying the proper segregation of tank compartmentsEnsuring all departmental paperwork is completed accurately and timely and distributed to the proper recipientsApplying ad hoc process/procedure improvements that:Minimize TwilightMaximize utility of rerunEnsuring that product quality and quality controls are maintained during each designated shiftControlling performance and quality of all carbon black units, including cogeneration and acid production equipment and processesInitiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departmentsComplete the standardized verification of operational capabilities of the production equipment at all designated times and ad hoc as instructed Collaborate with the Maintenance Department by:Reporting proactively all anticipated preventative maintenance tasksAssist in establishing task priorities to enhance maintenance schedulingCommunicate daily requirements and needs to the Maintenance SupervisorSupervising maintenance work (e.g. overtime, call-outs) in the absence of maintenance supervisionCooperate, influence, and periodically meet with Production and Plant leadership regarding:Continuing improvement effortsAudits and root cause analysisIntroducing new and upcoming technologies to improve productionMaintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing operators on 5s fundamentals and the following:Usage of all equipment and resourcesCompliance with established policies and proceduresEnsure environmental compliance limitations and parameters are addressed timely and appropriatelyMaintains professional and technical knowledge through various avenues of continuing education Act with full authority of plant productions during the assigned shift in the absence of plant/production leadership Other duties as assigned by supervisor Required Education and Experience:High School Diploma or equivalent 5 years experience leading teams or relevant supervisory experience Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions Possess impeccable attention to detail Self-confident and secure to be able to identify and groom high potential employees in critical-skill areas Impeccable time and project management skills with demonstrated implementation success Effective communicator, both oral and written Functional experience utilizing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems or software Proficient using Microsoft Office software especially Excel and Word Successful completion of TCCB’s internal Plant Operator training program (Borger Only) Must meet all qualifications of Oil Car Operator and Operator positions (Borger Only) Preferred Education and Experience:3 years experience in carbon black or specialty chemical manufacturing
