TOMAGWA HealthCare Ministries is Hiring a Pharmacy Support Specialist Near Tomball, TX

Pharmacy Support Specialist works under the supervision of the licensed pharmacist on duty. In the pharmacist’s absence the pharmacy support specialist will dispense prepackaged medications according to written prescriptions provided by practitioners.

Description

Position Summary: This position requires advanced attention to detail, ability to handle point-of-sale, patient education, excellent organizational skills, commitment to patient safety, and the ability to multi-task. A pharmacy support specialist must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining accuracy and efficiency. When not working in the pharmacy, the pharmacy support specialist will support clinical staff in nursing.

Education/Experience/Skills:

Completion of an accredited vocational or practical nursing program leading to licensure as an LVN/LPN
Current and valid LVN/LPN license in the state of Texas
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Must be able to interpret written prescriptions, prescription medication packaging, understand proper dosing instructions, and provide relevant basic patient education.
Must be able to interact with patients and their families, collecting pertinent information needed to process refills and prescription requests.
Must be able to ensure patient labels are properly affixed to medication containers.
The ability to operate a point-of-sale system is required (training provided), including end-of-day accounting of funds.
Must be capable of working independently.
Willingness to become a pharmacy technician trainee preferred.

Responsibilities:

Dispensing medications in the pharmacist's absence-ensuring medications are accurately labeling with patient name and date of birth, dosing instructions are accurately completed.
Point-of-Sale: collecting patient payment and accurately filling out superbills.
Maintaining accurate records compliant with the state of Texas as well as HRSA 340B requirements
Securing pharmacy at end of day by turning in collected funds and locking the pharmacy.
Checking patient messages on pharmacy refill line

While working with medical staff, the Pharmacy Support Specialist may be expected to:

Collect patient vitals.
Document patient health history in electronic medical record.
Perform various clinical tasks such as medication administration, immunizations, and wound care.
Assist nursing manager in day-to-day tasks.
Ensure safety and sanitation in patient rooms.

Work Environment: This work environment requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours, requires frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to lift and/or move more than fifty pounds. Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extensive periods of time. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The ability to work at a moderate noise level in the work environment is required.
