Job Description – Superintendent

Location: Michigan City, IN Office

The purpose of this job description is to define the role of Superintendent through the outline of duties, authorities, and responsibilities.

The Superintendent will plan and coordinate construction projects. The Superintendent will have the responsibility of supervising the entire jobsite. The Superintendent may delegate portions of their authority to other qualified personnel but does not relinquish total responsibility.

Education and/or Experience

· 5 years of applicable construction experience

· Successful drug, alcohol, and MVR background check

· Possess an OSHA 30 Certification

· Willingness to accept responsibility to acquire specialized training

· Ability to complete projects on time, within budget, and per construction documents

· Ability to schedule workers, subcontractors, and suppliers

· Ability to create and track RFI’s and Change Orders

· Understanding of project costs, estimates, labor productivity, and budgets

· Ability to create and communicate a work plan and sequence of activities with labor, subcontractors, and material suppliers

· Demonstrated management skills

· Ability to meet deadlines

· Excellent skills in interpersonal relations, conflict resolution, communication, and leadership

· Must be able to successfully interact with management, architect, and owner

· Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills

· Must be able to communicate and support company policies and initiatives

· High standard of ethics, integrity, and trust

_ Job Description Detail_

Duties will include:

· Establish and maintain a thorough knowledge of the construction documents for each project assigned

· Maintain a high standard of quality control at all times

· Manage, supervise, and schedule Tonn and Blank personnel as well as all subcontractors, equipment, and materials

· Communicate regularly with Tonn and Blank personnel and subcontractors to ensure they understand the work and schedule requirements

· Review the job schedule and cost breakdown with Project Manager at the beginning of each job and regularly thereafter

· Set up the job office and equipment trailers and see that permits, labor notices, safety rules and regulations, and EEOC material are posted. Set up sanitary stations, water coolers, dumpsters, phone, computer, utility locates, etc…

· Implementation and enforcement of the company Safety Program

· Complete a pre-task safety plan each day or when work process changes and presents different hazards

· Complete a visual safety inspection daily and include results in daily report. Complete a weekly written report and file in project safety folder

· See that good housekeeping practices are observed and maintained by both Tonn and Blank crews and subcontractors

· Keep the progress scheduled current, review schedule, monitor productivity, and job cost regularly

· Maintain inventory control over tools and equipment

· Complete daily and weekly reports and other required daily documentation and payroll time entry

· Maintain and submit to office all new hire packets and related information

· Ensure that all change orders are properly executed prior to beginning work and indicated on as-built plans

· Forward all receipts, tickets, and other receivables to the office each day

· Attend pre-construction and construction meetings, taking notes on areas that may present a future problem and present to the Project Manager for consultation

· Communicate and maintain relationships with inspectors, architects, subcontractors, owners, and other key people connected with the project

· Coordinate personnel, equipment, and tool needs with Operations in a timely manner

· Other tasks as assigned
